Treadmill Interval workout

Up until now I've only been walking on the treadmill at 3 speed and now and then a very slow jog at 4 and I do this for about 45min in total. I want to start "interval workouts" heard they burn more fat faster. So far I can only go up to 6 for the sprint and that's at 30-55 seconds. Is that okay for now? I see videos where people are at 9 for the speed. I'm afraid I might fly off the machine  Do I work up to this? Anyone out there have any comments

I woul say that 6 is fine. I was doing 5 and tried slowly progressing until I worked up to 5 mins. (I've never even tried 6, so I think your doing amazing!) It takes time. i wouldn't be intimidated by others progress, you have to go at your own pace :flowerforyou:0

If you think about it an "interval" work out is where you put yourself above your comfort zone for a period of time, an "interval". The purpose is to train your body to move faster.
So if you can do a slow jog for an indefinite amount of time at 4mph, that is your starting point. Try 30 sec at 5mph and do that 4 times with 60 sec at 4mph or less in between. Then try 45 sec, then 60 sec. When 5 mph feels comfortable, try 5.5mph and start again at 30 sec. but keep your "rest" period at 4mph for recovery. And so on and so on.0 -
I work in 5 minute cycles when I am doing interval training on my treadmill, I start with walking for 1 min at 6kmh, I then do 1 min swinging a 7.5kg kettlebell for 20 reps each arm, I then walk again at 6kmh for 1 min 30 secs, the last 1 min 30 secs I jog at 9kmh, then I repeat this every 5 mins for about 35 - 45 mins, adds a bit of variety to the boring treadmill workout and pushes me a lot more than if doing a normal walk on the treadmill.0

Thanks bunches ya all for your tips etc
I will keep up the Interval workout and move up the speed and times carefully as I build my endurance. I do realize I should challenge myself so I will keep that in mind. Went on youtube and watched some workout videos on the subject and noticed most sprint between ( 30 sec-2min @ 6-8 speed ) and a rest in between sprints depending on your heart rate. The advice for doing weight intervals is great too. I keep a 5lb weight in the cup holder of my treadmill so when I'm walking I lift too.
