Eating when not hungry - still under calorie goal

Is it normal to eat when you're not hungry? I'm still under my calorie goal 98% of the time, but I find myself often eating too much in one sitting or just nibbling on things, like carrots or granola bars. Is this bad?

Define too much in one sitting. I routinely save over half of my calories for dinner time.

It is for me. I'm a boredom/emotional eater.

If I eat good meals why should I eat more when my body is not hungry just because I didn't eat all the calories......it should however be a concern if you have a eating disorder and either you know it or you don't.

I know I gained a bunch of weight because of my tendency to eat mindlessly or to deal with stress or other emotions, so it's something I'm trying to break myself of and for me part of that is eating only at mealtimes unless I know I'm really hungry or really want a particular food item. However, I think that's a different issue than trying to meet your overall calorie goal even if you could be full with fewer calories. There's no reason to and it's probably not a good idea to try and find the fewest number of calories that can make you feel satisfied.
