Best places in New York City to visit...
I'm flying out from Australia on the 5th May (very very close, woohoo!) and will be basing myself in Murray Hill in New York City.
I would love some tips on what to see, do, eat....etc.
I really want to immerse myself into the culture of the place, so please don't hesitate to suggest anything and everything!
I will be there for 3 full weeks, so plenty of time to see and do.

My sister lived in NYC for 6 years so I know the city really well. You are staying in a nice part of town and you will definitely have access to the subway system. Get a subway pass if you are planning to be in NYC for all 3 weeks. YOU WILL BE WALKING A LOT and YOU WILL BE TIRED. Bring proper shoes and your camera, of course.
For newcomers visiting the city, I highly suggest taking the double decker bus tours so you can get an idea of the Manhattan proper. You will learn a lot about the layout of the city.
Highly touristy (and very crowded) Mid-Town: Go to Times Square, Central Park, Fifth Avenue for shopping, the APPLE Store, Broadway shows, Empire State building (or the alternate Top of the Rock with better views and shorter lines). Lots of art museums up there, if you are into that, especially Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is huge.
Downtown is less touristy but still crowded: Statue of Liberty, South Street Seaport for fantastic views of Brooklyn Bridge and other bridges, or boat / helicopter rides, Greenwich Village and SoHo for food, shopping and restaurants.
Okay, if you need restaurant recommendations, let me know.0 -
Thanks for that dcresider! What restaurants would you suggest? We're looking for a variety of $, so some to be $, $$ and even $$$ (may try one of these while we're here).
What's so good about the Apple Store?0
