Losing Weight With Fiber vs Low Carb?

Hello everyone.

I'm on a cut right now and usually I'd resort to using the low carb approach, but this time around I can't stomach the thought of going low carb and on top of that I just don't have the money in my budget for it; so I was thinking high fiber might be a good approach.

I have replaced corn flakes (1% fibre) with all bran high fibre plus (22% fibre), replaced white pasta (1% fibre) with brown pasta (15% fibre) I'm eating legit low GI whole grains now too like barley and bulgar and I'm having lean protein with almost every meal and a glass of milk once or twice a day for a treat and as a fat source or with cereal.

Has anyone had success losing weight with this approach?

It makes no difference whether you eat low GI or high GI carbs unless you're diabetic or have insulin resistance. You also don't need to go low carb or eat lean protein. Hit proper macro and micro goals, eat at a calorie deficit and eat whatever you want and you'll lose weight. It's not magic.

High fibre only benefits by making you feel full and thereby perhaps allowing you to eat less.

you are eating whole barley ?

With this statement, you are already setting yourself up for failure. If this isn't something that you are going to do for the rest of your life then don't do it. Focus on meeting your calories deficiency with well-balance meals, some water, and exercise. Toss in snacks and treats as well. This is worth the reading:

I tend to eat a high fibre diet within my calorie limit but I do it as I like the food. I enjoy jacket potatoes and home made vegetable soup etc, so it's easy for me.
  • Oh no, you have me all wrong.
I'm not going low carb I'm going whole grain low GI this time around.
I have no negativity towards eating wholegrain foods.

As I said before, there's no point in eating low GI foods, it's not necessarily beneficial to your weight loss. The GI scale was developed for diabetics and doesn't apply to the average person. Furthermore, when carbs are eaten with protein and fat in a balanced diet the GI scale is essentially useless since the protein slows down digestion.
