Getting Ready for a Color Run

I'm going to make this quick and simple. im 28 years old and have about 30lbs that i would like to lose, most importantly though i just want to be active and healthy. I play roller derby so i skate at least 2 nights a week for 2 hours at our teams practices. The team has signed up to do a Color Run in August. I've never been much of a runner but i'm excited to do it and I want to start preparing for it now. I'm open to any tips or advice to help me with running and endurance and am looking forward to my first ever 5K.

I had great success with a Couch to 5k training plan. I used the RunDouble C25k app on my phone. There are lots of apps available.
