Superfoods

I need to get serious about my weight loss now and am cutting out all unnecessary extras to feel full at 1300-1400 calories.

What are your "superfoods" that speeds up metabolism and makes you feel full at fewer calories?

I already eat quite a bit of avocado, broccoli, eggs, salmon and chicken. Thinking of buying more grapefruit, green tea and beans.

I wouldn't call it a "Superfood" the way that term is marketed.... BUT... I find that cucumbers really help fill me up. Mind you, I eat a whole cucumber at a time, I cut it thinly so there are numerous pieces I can eat, put hot sauce on it, and the water content of cucumbers is pretty high. But, they keep me going for a while.

Actually, any food that makes me feel full on fewer calories are fruits and vegetables cut into small pieces so it takes me forever to eat them. THat being said, some fruits can have higher calories, but I usually limit it to no more than 200 calories.

Tuna is also a good find - tons of protein and low cal

How about bacon and eggs? Taste delicious, chock full of protein and fat - surely they must qualify as super foods. I can eat bacon and eggs with tomato spinach and onion for breakfast and be totally satisfied until lunch time.

Grass fed beef, MCT oil, coconut oil, cacao beans, cocoa powder, egg yolks (whites are good too).

No food "speeds" up metabolism. Some have a higher TEF, but speeding up metabolism is based more on one's physical activity and lean muscle/fat ratio.
As for foods that are more filling and provide more satiety, look to ones with more fiber and protein content.

Depending on where you are from, Costco sells a "super foods" salad that has kale, cabbage, chicory, brussel sprouts, pumpkin seeds and cranberries in it. It's very good!

I really like chia seeds and hemp seeds ... Although not really low cal ( chia = 60cals/tablespoon and hemp = approx 57cals/T) but when added to yogurts, cottage cheese, etc ... They keep me sustained and more full for longer periods. They also are extremely nutritious! :)

Eat what's good for your body, every one is different and there is probably no one size fits all superfood.

    Coffee. Two cups. 40 calories.

    But that's the entire list.

I'm finding the 2 minute pumpkin pie from Shape magazine really keeps me satisfied. It's only 75 calories.
    1/2 cup pumpkin purée
    1/4 cup egg whites
    Sweetener to taste
    Pumpkin pie spices
Microwave for two minutes. Add a bit of Ready Whip.

I've been following a nutritarian diet (at least trying to) and I'm never left feeling hungry. In fact most days My Fitness Pal tells me I'm short on calories - especially when I go to the gym.

I read the book "Eat to Live" and now try to focus on fruit and whole grains for breakfast, salad and veggies for lunch, and cooked veggies for dinner. It's taking my husband some time to come around to the idea, but we'll get there. I eat very little, if any, meat and get most of my protein from beans and the veggies.
  • well if you wanna use superfood, make sure what exactly you get from each 1
    EXAMPLE:
chicken and eggs basically are protein, eat both, you get your daily protein amount
    so dont eat another protein

there are many, be sure it suitable for your body and you can digest it with no issues
each 1 respond differently to each food

truly recommend you to use organic stuff like chia or chlorella
dont use pills and stuff like that

My superfoods are the ones I enjoy eating and there are hundreds, far too many to list.

Make a list of foods you enjoy, put them in an order and in amounts that you can eat throughout the day, making sure they fit your macros and fulfill your micros.

    BAM! Superfoods!

I don't eat whatever I want to eat because it doesn't work. If I'm having pasta and wine I can't eat enough to make me full, at least not for long. It's why most people eat differently on a diet, after all.

By "superfoods" I don't mean miracle foods, as I said. I'm well aware of the fact that calorie deficit is the only way.

    What I means was food that;
    - fills you up with few calories
    - have a lot of nutrients
    - offer other health benefits

I've been reading a few articles on Dr Oz website, I know he's a popular doctor in the US, but I am not sure how much he is to be trusted? I've always trusted doctors over "nutritionists" and "health coaches".

If you don't feel full after eating pasta then you should try either eating more pasta. Or adding things to the pasta that will fill you up (e.g. parmesan cheese, walnuts, delish sauce, etc).

I don't think people gain their weight back because they eat too healthy? I am more likely to "explode" if I eat pasta, burgers, chocolate in moderation and go hungry to bed than if I eat much more healthy foods.

Even the clinical evidence for it is weak at best. Stimulants may make one more "hyper", but that doesn't necessarily mean an increase in metabolism.

They gain their weight back because they eat differently on a diet, which tends to be unsustainable in the long run. Learning how to moderate the foods you enjoy while identifying small areas to change consistently is a better strategy.

Figure out the amount of wine you can fit in to the day. Make sure the pasta is part of a balanced meal. Incorporate more fruits and vegetables that you enjoy. You'll feel more sated and the new habits won't be something you'll stop doing once you reach your goal weight because you'll like what you are doing more than you liked what you were doing before.

Way to rain on my parade. Next you'll be telling me that the anti-oxidant claims of dark chocolate are laughable.

Instead of eating baked potato fries with eggs for breakfast, I grow chard and buy either chard or spinach when I don't have home grown. I take a huge bunch of chard and stir fry in my blue Steele, basically non stick pan. Just a spritz of oil on a super hot pan ( I use a mister spray) and cook the chard until wilted, about 30-60 seconds.
Sometimes, I put a little balsamic vinegar on the greens. Great with soft poached eggs on top!
