Hi 40+ Moms,
I'm a mother of 3 and soon to be 42 around the New Year. I've struggled w/my weight & self esteem as many young women do. Addicted to bulimia for 7 years and found freedom from all that at 33 years of age after self education. For 6 1/2 years, I maintained a healthy weight range gaining and losing 5-15 pounds. 3 years ago, I found out that I have 3 herniated discs and it's very important to keep my weight down to be able to get around easier. About 1 1/2 years ago, I changed from the low fat/processed food diet to the Mediterranean Diet lifestyle after learning it's the healthiest way of living in all of the world! It's been a new adventure making all of our meals, breads, pasta & condiments from scratch. I'm even grinding our own whole wheat flourI! I just love homesteading! Now, I understand that not everyone has the time or ability/tools to be able to grind their own flour but it's a lot of fun for me right now. We also started our own herb/vegetable garden w/a few fruit trees & thornless blackberry bushes. To top off this new adventure, we purchased 5, hopefully, laying chicks a couple of weeks ago.
We couldn't be eating any healthier but I consume too many calories. The program counter that I used for 7 years is not mac compatible, so I was forced to find another program. Myfitnesspal is even better than the paid program! Very cool!
Looking for a few ladies that are peri menopausal, such as myself, in their 40's to go through this journey with me.
I don't use any meds or supplemental vitamins because my system is very sensitive so getting all my nutrition from food! Just an occasional Advil for my back. I'm not sure how this works but if there's a way to add me to your friend or pal list. Please do

Hi there! Count me in....I'm very similar, 41, mom to an almost 6 year old and living the rural life. I have been attempting to garden, but generally fall back on our local CSA for veggies, but always grow herbs, love hunting for mushrooms, berries, etc. Although all our neighbors have, I have yet to get chickens (maybe next year..... if hubby and child take to doing most of the work!).
I'm on maintenance for the most part. I didn't seem to need as much support last year as I was losing, so did not use the community at MFP all that much. But now that I'm maintaining I feel like I need it more than ever---it is hard! This is a wonderful program though--I'm sure you'll do great here. Will add you now........0 -
thank you kadetr,
Yes, maintenance is work!!! You're so right about that. Usually, I just get into my world and go...then when I reach my goal...it creeps back on. I have need to lose 22 pounds. When I was 33, I lost 40 pounds in 12 weeks counting calories, eating low fat/processed food & exercise.
Jillian Michaels wrote how to set the new plateau by eating 12 calories x weight plus 3-5 hours of exercise a week to maintain. I can't remember how long you were suppose to do that...like 3 months counting and it sets the new plateau. I'm definitely going to be trying this once I reach my goal.0 -
wow, that little calculation is great to know, about setting the plateau. I still have my goals on MFP set on "lose 1 lb a week" although I haven't lost anything in 5 months. I just kind of use it as a base and go over when I need to. thanks.! look forward to keeping in touch!0
