So, if protein can help you gain good weight...

I've been watching my body change and re-shape for a long time. With the reappearance of roughly 15Lb's I had a question forming in the back of my mind..

Do different things (Ex. carbs, protein, fat etc..) cause you to gain or lose weight in different ways?

All the time I hear "Abs are made in the kitchen" "Eat more protein to help gain and repair muscle" and other things like "beer belly".

So if I eat a lot more protein and less carbs will I lose weight in a different way than if I were to eat a lot of fat and fibre? (All assuming I'm in a calorie deficit)

Mostly I'm just curious, I'm really not looking at changing the way I eat because I'm quite happy with my food choices, but if anyone has had experience with changing their diet and losing/gaining in different ways I'd like to hear!

Thanks for any input. : ]

Not really, no. Protein doesn't help you gain weight.. calories do. Your body stores excess calories as body mass. That's how you gain weight.

If you're losing weight, eating sufficient protein and doing resistance training will help you maintain more muscle and lose more of the weight as fat. Up to a point. Past a certain point, which is around 1-1.4 grams per pound of lean body mass daily, more protein does not help any more.
