Rollerblading! And Fitbit?

Hey guys! I need advice,

I'm a rollerblader, and I'm an avid Fitbit user (Flex!). I'm trying to figure out:

1. How to treat my rollerblading in terms of Fitbit step counts (Leave the Flex on and get an inaccurate step count? Take it off and count rollerblading as an entirely separate workout? Put the Flex in my pocket and hope for more accuracy?)

2. How to make the most out of rollerblading! (What's the best way to make it fun? Best way to make it into a workout session? Best way to maintain safety while rollerblading?)

Note: I'm just learning how to rollerblade but I'm getting pretty good. I'm a university student and campus is pretty small. I'd love to lose some weight so getting a workout of something that I'm really starting to love so much is really appealing. I just don't know how to record it!

Flex works on arm movement, so I doubt that it would be more accurate in your pocket. I would log it as a separate exercise through MFP. The MFP log will override the Fitbit count for the timeframe during your outing (which is why MFP asks for the start time and duration when synching with Flex. If I am incorrect, I am certain someone else will correct me. I hope that is helpful.

Hello there, I love to rollerblade! I wear my Flex but I usually manually override using Fitbit because it definitely doesn't track my movements right or my exertion. Fitbit always estimates a lower burn than MFP so I prefer to do it that way. I type in roller blading (In-line skating). To help me remember my time, I tap my fitbit to make an activity marker and then tap it again when I'm done. Then I delete the activity marker once I've manually entered the exercise.
