Hi,
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I started on my fitness the end of January then I started boxercise at the same time too its mainly alot of boxing using the punch bag and cardio and I love it.
I do get a great work out and do it 2-3 times a week for an hour each time, however I weighed myself this morning and I am up 6lbs since February so I am really disappointed. I am sticking to my calorie intake and only cook from fresh nothing comes from a jar or tin in my house so I am wondering is it possible to put on weight like muscle if doing this exercise, I've also done walks like 5K and 10K and am always on the move as I have alot of animals to look after and if its not that I am cleaning my house so I never get to sit down and be lazy....I do have treats on weekends whether that be some drinks or else a take away but again its not every weekend just the odd one.
I am very muscular on the legs and arms as I did alot of exercise years ago and now since starting the boxing my legs are like steel so any advice would be great.

just glancing over your diary your calorie intake seems a bit low.. boxing/boxercise burns up quite a bit of calories.. Figure out your tdee and go from there.. I believe that adding a bit more cals and doing the activity you are doing will net you better results.0

Thanks I was going by the calories that this site told me to use so maybe I should up my calories by 150-200 per day?
I am generally really good and as I said cook everything from fresh eat loads of veg and ye of course I have my treats but not every weekend or all the time and even if I do eat treats in the week I include them in the diary.
It's just a bit frustrating but I will take your advice and add on more calories as the boxercise is a great work out because its taught by two boxers so they dont let you away with anything.
Cheers for the information0 -
Your protein also looks a little low....
Calculate your macros from here :-

Unless you're very short, 1320 calories is actually a low number and is unlikely to even be your BMR ... let alone the additional calories you need for high impact workouts like boxing....0 -
You're eating far more than you think. How much is a cup of chicken? You need to weigh all solids a cup is not an accurate measurement of things like that. You also seem to be using recipes entries directly off the database how do you know they used the same ingredients and amounts that you did. If you need a recipe enter your own. Get your logging accurate then you have a baseline to work from. At present if you upped your calories you'd not even know accurately what you were upping it from and probably just put more weight on
Good luck0 -
fatdoob has it correct.
Boxing is a cardio-heavy exercise. It's not like lifting weights. So it's unlikely that the 6 lbs you've gained in 2 months is muscle due to boxing alone. Even if you could build muscle with boxing, gaining 6 lbs of pure muscle in a couple of months is practically impossible for the general population. Fat loss could be hidden by water weight, but that is usually a very temporary thing and if you're really burning more calories than you are taking in, over the course of 2 months, you would've seen a decrease in weight.
It sounds like you aren't in a caloric deficit. You are consuming more calories than you are burning.
DO NOT increase your calories before finding out what your real caloric intake is through accurate logging (it will be higher than you currently think it to be).
Good luck and keep at it!0 -
I'm going with the "not logging accurately" crowd. Food being "fresh and not from a tin" has not a single thing to do if you're going to lose weight or not. Hell, the fresher my family cooks the more I tend to eat.
Start weighing and entering your own recipes into the database.0 -
Thanks everyone good advice possibly I am consuming more calories then I think.0

I've also just noticed that this site has all of the slimming world receipes in the database so they are the receipes I am going by so instead I will choose those ones for my diary as I didnt think this site would have their receipes0

I went onto that site and it tells me my BMR is 1663 and TDEE is 2286.
What is BMR and TDEE?0 -
IF one was previously an athlete and had a long enough lay off, getting back into a regimen of hard training can build some muscle back even if in calorie deficit. It will be short lived though.
Don't focus on the weight right now. Look more at your body composition.

What is BMR and TDEE?
BMR (Basic Metobolic Rate) = Basically what would sustain you if you slept all day.
TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expendeture) = How many calories per day you'd need to eat to maintain your current weight vs. your daily activity (exercise included). If you go this route, normally TDEE - 20% is a good place to figure your daily caloric goal (1829). No eating back exercise cals with this method, as they are already figured in.0 -

^^ everything he said
And when he says start weighing and entering ... he meant in grams on kitchen scale.
Do not bother with a cup/tablespoon/teaspoon.
Jus' want to add - All the best. Good Luck.0 -
1. if you are actually eating at a deficit then you will not be building muscle
2. many of us a guilty of not logging our excercise and consumption accurately, it can make a big difference

Okay so I've put my calories at 1500 I feel this is good as I do boxing Mon & Wed and on Saturdays too so other days I dont be as active, I have manually entered in some receipes and I see already I am over by 221 today so its all making sense if I was doing that everyday I would be well over 1000 calories too much per week.0

Thanks alot everyone I worked out last night if I ate 1400 too much per week I would be eating 72,800 extra per year no wonder the weight wasn't coming off, I bought a smaller plate last night and had my first smaller portion of curry and rice I admit I was still a little hungry but I can work other food in to help with that which wont put me over my calories or sugar intake. I am as someone suggested not focusing solely on the weight thing as I feel much fitter and boxing instructor said I am the strongest in the class so he pushes me hard so onwards and upward and I am going to boxing in the morning so hopefully I will do better next week with a loss.0 -
eating a good amount of fiberous greens n veggies will help with feeling full.. I also eat really slow and sip water more often when i transition from a bulk to a cut.0

Just remember, you also said :I went onto that site and it tells me my BMR is 1663 and TDEE is 2286.
You should NOT eat UNDER your BMR since your body NEEDS this energy to provide brain function / body repair / just to EXIST if you did zero activity.
If your TDEE is 2286 (ie 623 higher than BMR) - it suggests that your movement / walking / standing / physical exertion is equivalent to this amount of calories (623).
If you do eat at 1500, you're 163 calories below BMR and isn't recommended.0 -

Thanks I was slightly confused about the BMR and TDEE but when I put my calories in as 1663 and the goal amount of weight I wanted it told me I would only be losing 0.9lb per week.0
