strength and endurance

My primary goals are strength and endurance with that strength. I've started to do the strong lifts 5x5 workout which is supposed to be good for building full body strength. But because I want to also build endurance I have decided to do shorter rest periods of ~60 seconds instead of a couple minutes.
Does this make sense for building both strength and endurance? Can I actually build strength and endurance at the same time?

At some level muscular strength and muscular endurance both contribute to each other.
If your 5 rep max is 75 lbs today, you'll probably be able to do 20 reps at around 45 lbs (guess). If you run the stronglifts program for 3 months and your new 5 rep max is 100 lbs, you will also be able to do a lot more reps at 45 lbs without having focused on endurance at all.
I would wager the converse will be true too, if you run an endurance focused program for a few months you'll also end up increasing your overall strength as a side effect.
Personally, I'd pick one type of program or the other with the understanding that I'll be making improvements in the other area as a side effect rather than trying to find a program that will work on both at the same time.0
