Muscle weighs more. If you are lifting weights, expect to gain weight
It's true that you do tend to gain weight when you start lifting weights, but it's not because you start packing the muscle on. Muscle is slow to build and it's hard to put on any significant amount while eating at a deficit.
Instead, new lifters are holding a lot of extra water in their muscles to help cushion and repair them. This can cause a gain on the scale and give the muscles a "pumped" look, which some new lifters mistake for muscle gain.0
