Exercise at the job place

Hello,

I was just wondering what peoples thoughts are about standing and walking back and forth at the job place? I recently changed careers and I will be standing on my feet and walking 8 hours a day.

After calculating standing and my walking it says that I burned over 3000 calories. Is this fair to log into my exercise. I really get a workout by doing so.

Just wanted to get some feedback on this subject. Thank you in advance for your help.

This is something that should be factored in your setup, when you choose your activity level. If it has changed since you signed up for MFP, you can go to Home > Goals > Change Goals > Guided and choose one of the following (sounds like active would be an option for you).

Sedentary: Spend most of the day sitting (e.g. bank teller, desk job)
Lightly Active: Spend a good part of the day on your feet (e.g. teacher, salesman)
Active: Spend a good part of the day doing some physical activity (e.g. waitress, mailman)
Very Active: Spend most of the day doing heavy physical activity (e.g. bike messenger, carpenter)

I would not log it as additional exercise. Some of the calories you burned are already accounted for. 3000 is an extremely high number for a daily activity.
  • Yeah, that is what I thought also. I did make the activity change in my goals section. But it kept me at the same calories allotment. Since I am literally walking and standing all day long I wanted to take that into account. Hmmmm....
