How to maintain while exercising?

My doctor told me to eat 1460 calories per day, and I burn 300 calories by walking per day, does that mean I can eat 1760 per day and still maintain? Or is that not how it works? Lol

Try eating the 1760 for a few weeks (1460 sounds too low for maintenance). If you gain weight outside of your maintenance range, adjust accordingly.

remember, your weight will go up (or down) a few pounds, so don't sweat it, okay?

The key to maintaining is to eat enough calories so your weight just remains constant. This will be different for everyone. Try eating 1700 cal/day for a week, while logging all of your food, hitting your nutritional goals, and getting in all of your workouts. If you lose weight, up your calorie intake. If you gain weight, reduce your intake. Repeat this procedure until you find what calorie level works for you. Then start to reverse diet by SLOWLY upping your calorie level every week. This will maximize your metabolism with minimal gains in weight/body fat.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Dont eat the calories you burn. That's just silly.

You need to figure your own maintenance just by trial and error.
  • If your doctor told you to eat 1460 calories per day to maintain and did not factor in your walking to the equation then you will have to net that amount and eat back your exercise calories. (Assuming that his calculations are correct.)

If he did factor in the walking then you should round up to net 1200 at the very least.

Not sure how you will be able to maintain your body weight at 1200 calories though. That's awfully low.

If 1460 if your BMR, which I'm guessing it is, you need to eat more than that even if you don't exercise. You should be eating at your TDEE. That may be 1760. If you want to follow your doctor's instructions, yes, eat back your exercise calories. It just seems much simpler to eat at TDEE.
