You can always swim, using mostly upper body strength.
And yes, simply using a caloric deficit will work.

weight loss can ONLY be achieved with deficit. exercise only helps because it increases the deficit. you'll probably find you have to eat less to lose similar to how you were before
  • Yes, I have been loosing weight through just a calorie deficit, I don't do any cardio. I used to do it all the time.

I lost most of my 94 lbs. through diet only - minimal cardio. But I was very careful about what I ate, keeping it mostly clean. I made sure to eat plenty of fruit and veggies, drink a lot of water, and stay away from most processed foods. Interestingly enough, I was never really hungry. Now that I've added in cardio (walking/jogging) I really get hungry. But I know I can eat back exercise calories because my body wants/needs them.

You'll just have to stay honest with what you eat.

Sorry to hear about ur injury. I broke my hand 4 weeks ago skating, I wasn't able to properly exercise but couldn't drive either. I walked everywhere and watched what I ate, I used to do the 5:2 diet and stepped up to 4:3 during this time (I now am down to 6:1 as have hit goal) but I can say I managed to still lose during this time. I understand u won't be able to walk with an ankle injury but maybe find something u can do such as sit ups maybe or something upper body. Hope u feel better soon!
