How to not feel guilty

So I've been perfect for my first two months but tonight I had a couple friends over and we drank and smashed on some pizza. Totally ruined my day. I know one day won't hurt anything but I can't help feeling guilty. What does everyone else do to not feel guilty?

Define "perfect" ... People make these changes to their diets and cut out all the food they love and end up over-doing it when they do finally cave and enjoy themselves. IDK if that's your situation but honestly it's one day! If I have a super bad day (I ate 7 pieces of pizza last night...) I workout extra hard. I know you can't out-run a bad diet, but at least it motivates me to eat better later!0

I always felt guilty about eating. Every day. But now that I've made a decision to change the amount I eat and the amount I exercise, I don't feel guilty any more. As long as I'm on track for 80-90% of the week--I couldn't give less of a rat's *kitten* about the 2 shortbread cookies and wine I had yesterday on my "cheat day". It made the cookies taste soooooo much better. Some people need 2 days where they eat what they want (WITHIN REASON!!) and some people just hit the gym a little harder the rest of the week. For instance. Friday is my comfort food or wine day, but I still go to the gym. And Saturday is my day off from the gym. If I feel like I had a bit too much yesterday, I'll go ahead and go to the gym today. Its all about balance. And besides, food can be so flipping amazing. I wanna enjoy my boyfriend's breakfast tacos. I want to have brunch with friend. I want to learn to make macaroons! So I do my best to walk the line for MOST of the week and stick to my gym schedule...and the guilt is gone. I hope you can try to let go of some of the guilt. Life is too short to miss out on comfort food and good times with friends!0

One day won't hurt or mess up all of your hard work. Just get back on track tomorrow. Keep doing what you're doing and when you weigh in you'll still see progress. It also helps if you don't cut out all of the foods that you love completely. I still pretty much eat whatever I want I just make sure that those foods fit into my calorie goals. If you don't deprive yourself of those foods you won't feel bad when you eat them and you also won't feel the need to go overboard when you do. Good luck!0

Look at everything in the long run; it'll help you come to the conclusion that it won't hurt to do these things to keep you sane every so often and get you to where you want to be.
Remember: it's a lifestyle change, not a diet.
So, these things are okay.0 -
Personally I think if you set yourself a goal and then do something that runs counter to that goal that guilt is the natural response and not something to try to avoid. Trick is to find guilt to be a motivator to get back oj track rather than something that spirals you into depression and demotivates you.
There was a thread recently asking what your secret to success in getting fit is and my answer was guilt. Guilt means you care and you can use that as a positive advantage. The way I got out of shape? Went through a period of my life where I experienced no guilt in association with overeating or not exercising.0 -

Do you plan to never ever ever get plastered or smash pizza again as long as you live? Or did you want to avoid this until you lost the weight you want to lose and then do it? Either scenario is a bad idea. If you are making this a lifestyle change you need to allow times like this in your life and you should learn to incorporate them into your diet now so you don't have the desire to overindulge when you have the opportunity. When I started this site I thought it would be a great idea to allow myself a cheat meal a week and a cheat say a month but after my first cheat meal I quickly realized my body didn't like a lot of crap at once. I have since learned to eat smaller amounts of everything. I can have chocolate, ice cream, pizza, and beer daily if I desire. I made this decision because I realized I need to eat now how I want need to eat once I reach my goal. Cutting out all "bad" foods wasn't going to work since i was most likely going to be eating them once i teach goal. Now, the only difference in my lifestyle change once i teach my goal weight will be in the quantity i eat and not in what i eat. My body will be used to having the clean and the not so clean foods and i won't out on all my weight when i am done. No wy was i giving up ice-cream for life!
Bottom line, stop feeling guilty about food. Save that for the **** you do while you're drink. ;-)0 -
Honestly I believe guilt is a wasted emotion. All you can do is work on the future and always do your best. Most times guilt is self serving and service no purpose. Always look forward and not backward.
The above is different to me if I caused harm to another , then guilt is a major part of learning and growing. Harming your self is guilt free only you did it and only you can fix it.
Also dang everyone enjoys a good time and life is only worth living if you actually live it and enjoy it :drinker: just aim for moderation next time :happy:0
