Hey, so since its warmer out I have decided that the most convenient exercise for my busy lifestyle would be swimming. This will also be more enjoyable and easier on the joints that have just recently started hurting with exercise over the last couple months. I want to know if there is a "right" way to swim for weight loss or will just getting in there and moving around, or doing laps, all that I need to do. I am by no means a swimmer athlete...I have only done it for fun. Anyone else incorporate swimming in to there exercise routine and have you had good results? I am hoping along with my food choices that this will be the thing to work for me.

Im in for comments. I am about to add some swimming in my routine. Don't really have any sort of plan in mind. Just thinking I will swim as many laps as I can on day one in a 30 minute time frame. And then try and add more as the days go on and extend duration as well.
btw, I took a water aerobics class one time and one of our exercises was getting on the edge of the pool and lifting ourselves out of the water, over and over. Its really hard to lift your body weight out of the water0 -
I love swimming. It is great cardio. I work as a lifeguard and teach a swim class. I swim almost every day. Try to mix things up. Swim longer distances some days and faster shorter swims on other days. Also different strokes work different muscles. I love the breaststroke for longer distances because you can breathe every stoke. Front Crawl/freestyle is fast but is more tiring. Swimming will wear you out but it is a great workout and is great for your joints.0

Swimming is a great exercise, there isn't a wrong way to swim for weight loss beside not having proper form. I would highly recommend taking some classes or coaching to help you with proper form and breathing. Those will help immensely. Swimming is a great cardio workout.
I am currently swimming a minimum of twice a week and I have noticed improvements in my strength and endurance.
I have joined my local Masters Swim club and swimming with them pushes me more then I would on my own.
I am training for 2 long distance swims this summer (2.1 and 3.1km) which means I need that push.
I have never had any enjoyment with any water exercise program besides lap swimming, but other people do enjoy them. I have not lost a lot of weight since I tend to overeat on my calorie goal and getting fit is more of my goal then losing weight. But I have noticed small improvements.0
