Anyone make their own juice? Recommend any recipes? I made spinach, celery, carrot, and apple juice tonight. It actually was good.

I juice every morning. Depends on how much you want to get into it. I started making juice that was sooo yummy!!! Then, I started studying all the benefits to different fruits & vegetables. So on a regular basis, I'm drinking my "green" juice to get the vitamins & minerals my body needs, not so much for taste. But it doesn't taste bad... it's just really good for me.
spinach
parsley
red bell pepper
cucumber
celery
carrot
apple (with out seeds!!! seeds have arsenic and will kill you! An acquaintances' husband died from juicing the whole apple)
broccoli
ginger
No one else may want to drink that but it's what my body needs
after about a 1/2 hour, I also juice a grapefruit.
My husband and daughter drink orange and carrot every morning.
Have fun! Juicing is wonderful!0 -
I have done but have been slack for a while. My poor juicer is sitting there looking rather forlorn at the moment. One of my favourites is carrot, apple, beetroot and ginger. Just be careful with the beetroot as some people react quite strongly to it (stomach cramps and the like). Also be careful of using too many leafy greens, for much the same reason.0

Just started Juicing a few weeks ago. Green Smoothies are great and the fiber you get is good too! Spinach, Cilantro, Parsley. I can't do kale because I only have a blender. I love peach, spinich and banana. Just throw in one handful of spinich and any two fruits. Strawberries, Blueberries, Blackberries Raspberry, Kiwi. The list goes on! Enjoy.
Oh one thing though. If you are counting calories..... fruit is good for you but high in calories. Just don't go overboard. Blessings! Vickie0 -
I like to juice a few carrots and throw in an apple. Nice and sweet. On a hot day I'll throw in a few ice cubes to a nice cold treat. Enjoy!0

If you like juicing you should really think about getting a VitaMix blender. They are way better than a juicer. Juice is essentially sugar water. All the real nutrition in fruits and vegetables is in the pulp that gets thrown away. With a VitaMix all you have to do is throw in whole fruit and some ice (the blades spin so fast that they get hot), turn it on high and you come out with a delicious, whole food smoothie that has more vitamins, minerals and fiber than you would get if you ate the fruits and vegetables whole.
Certain fruits and vegetable have amazing health benefits that we don't get through simply eating them, juicing them or even using a "regular" blender. Strawberry seeds have a ton of cancer fighting agents but the seeds have to be broken open in order for us to use them. The VitaMix blades spin so fast they can break apart the seeds. And things like pineapple core and the white, pithy part of oranges are great for you too. The pineapple core has anti-inflammatory properties, ibuprofen was designed after it. With the VitaMix blender you can throw in whole foods (minus the rinds or outer skin layers of certain foods) and you get amazing health benefits you won't get anywhere else.
And it's not just great for "juicing", it does so much more! You can make all kinds of other foods, including soups and ice creams or sorbets. It's a truly amazing machine. They're a little expensive but they're worth it. They come with a 7 year warranty, but the machine will definitely outlast that. There are people who have been using the same VitaMix for 40 years. And they're made in America, too!0 -
I concur with what NoAdditives said about the VitaMix. What a marvel. I know I'm getting much more complete nutrition out of the produce I'm eating. (Drinking).
I have a juicer and loved it. Hated cleaning it. Threw away all meaty part of the carrots, and could take almost a pound of carrots at a time. Now, with the VitaMix, I clip off the stem end. (Come to think of it, why do I do that?) And the rest goes into the blender. It thickens the juice so nicely.
I've been making rice-milk from brown rice, then adding an assortment of produce. The ORANGE (colored) DRINK is combination of the rice milk plus an orange (I just peel the dark orange part off, leaving the white part of the peel), half a banana, and a carrot makes this beautiful orange-colored drink. The GREEN DRINK is rice milk plus Kale and whatever else I grab, right now I have baby celery plants they sold at the grocery. Delicious and I know they are pesticide-free, because I'm the one supervising their growth. The PINK DRINK is a banana, an apple, a little bit of beet, and other bits and pieces.
The amount my daughter goes out for smoothies, I bet she could buy a VitaMix and have it paid for within a year. I, on the other hand, haven't been much of a smoothie person, mostly because all that ice freezes my throat and I get coughing. Also, tho, because I find it hard to choose from the mixtures they have posted in those little stores. Owning my own equipment is a much better idea for me!
Wonder what I should do with my juicers. They're really nice things. (Oh, come to think of it, one of them is out-of-state and on-loan to my friend . . . maybe one of the kids would use one.)0
