I am no expert, but I think you need an *actual* rest day. A light run does not equal rest.
Even professional athletes take 1 day off a week.
Remember that muscle builds on recovery.

I would definitely make one of those days an actual rest day - I agree that a light run or weights does not equal rest! You don't have to be a couch potato, but take an easy walk or something and give your body a break at least once a week.

I also take a light rest day on Thursday. My light rest day consists of some light cardio usually on the elliptical or ARC or even tread mill, fast walking... Or sometimes I take my dogs for a long walk.

My routine(s) consist of cardio every day e.g., running, ARC, Elliptical and/or a mix of both to get at least a 600 calorie burn. I lift (upper body) on Tuesdays and squat with heavy weights twice a week. I dance, do calisthenics a few times a week and I kick box a few nights a week. I am also in a Saturday morning boot camp which is one hour of cardio and body strength conditioning/endurance.

I have always been of the school of thought that if you're physically willing and able too keep going... than keep going. Trust me, your body will let you know when it needs to rest.

Although, I used to go go go seven days a week a couple of times a day until one day I crashed and burned. I literally felt like I had cement blocks on my feet and was walking around like I was sleep walking. I got home from work that day, went to be by about 5:00 PM and slept like a baby. The next day I was completely full of energy again, totally revived! So now I make it a point to rest every Thursday and it does me a world of good.
