On Sunday, I got up early to go to Zumba and was so proud of myself because it was cold, rainy and windy and I still got out the door. On the way to my warm club, I passed two large groups of people, one doing a bike-a-thon and then another doing a walk/run-a-thon and I thought wow these people are dedicated because it was miserable out. And then I thought, that's because they are doing it to benefit others that cannot. And I suddenly felt kind of dumb that I was only doing my workouts for me and there are kids and adults who would kill to just be able to walk, run, bike, dance.
Since MFP is free, let's do something with money you may have spent otherwise to help you lose weight and donate to a charity, call it MFP4C (MFP for Charity) or FITNESS WITH A PURPOSE or PLAY IT FORWARD or whatever buzz sentence that motivates you to move and give something to someone who cannot exercise with abandon. Or maybe give to an organization that may find a cure or for a charity that helps prevent obesity so there are not such a great need to solve these health problems. Your challenge, your charity, but we do it together.
So here is the challenge:
1) Pick what you will do and in what time frame. (it can be weight loss, an event, or anything you want)
2) Pick a charity that you will donate to and why (in honor of someone, etc.)
3) Pick the amount you will give if you reach or fail on your goal.
4) Post it here and on your personal board and challenge your other MFP friends. Include the link to this post
5) Post your success here too as soon as you meet your goal.
My challenge: To lose 10+ pounds in 8 weeks.
Charity - Multiple Sclerosis foundation. I have MS but am thankful it is a latent form and this is in honor of those who have a more aggressive form. I hope we find the cure to MS. It also is in honor of Carol K, a high school friend who passed away from complications of MS.
Amount - I am pledging $10 to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation to be paid when I lose 10 pounds. I am challenging myself to do this in 6 weeks or I will double my pledge to $20. I am also donating $20 today for the 20lbs I have already lost.
I am challenging YOU - Yes anyone reading this and I will post it to my personal board as well. Let's see how much money we can raise! Fitness with a purpose. Are you in?
