Taking breaks

I try to get a solid 30 minutes on the elliptical at a good speed, but after 15-20 minutes I feel like I'm going to pass out.
I'm pretty new to exercising like this, so what I'm wondering is, is it just as beneficial to do 15-20 minutes then take a 20 minute or so break and then finish as it is to do the full time all at once? (That was a ridiculous run on sentence. I apologize.)
