Is anyone doing WW here? I did South Beach for a long time and have changed to WW as of yesterday. I could really use a support system for this!

Weight watchers is the same thing as MFP. It's counting calories. The only thing different is weight watchers I think let's fruit and veggies be free points? (Which I think is absurd, as they still contain calories, some quite a bit like bananas, avacado, etc). I would save your money and just use mfp.

WW is a con. Higher prices for smaller portions.0

I've successfully used WW in the past, and so has my wife. It's a system, and if you follow it, you can make it work.
We did the online version, and neither ever attended an in-person meeting. If I recall correctly, there is an online community much like this one.
IF you're going to follow that program, you'd probably have more success finding support on their forums. You're going to get a lot of voices here (some have already shown up) that won't have many positive things to say about it. I wouldn't worry about it, but it can be hard to filter out the critics in a thread asking for support.
Good luck with the journey!! You can do it!0 -
I have done WW 2x...lost weight and gained it back all within a year of starting.
WW is good if you are willing to eat like that for the rest of your life. As well they don't discuss macros or about health it's all about weight loss.
I personally feel that counting calories is better suited to most people and it's free.
If you are set on using WW know that you are losing muscle along with the fat and if you start to stall it might be time to check the calories you are eating from the free fruit at least..not so much the veggies.0 -

I am a very successful former WW participant. I lost 32 lbs. and never gained back a pound. The only reason I joined MFP is because it is free and it works. WW works but you don't need to spend money when you could get the same for free.0 -
As above, I did WW lost over 50lb, then they changed the system, I left and gained it all back with a lot more. It's just not sustainable and you'll never ever be able to get away from points or calculating them for the rest of your life.
Sure I lost weight but I was skinny fat and miserable. This time around I'm making healthy choices to get slimmer AND fitter.0 -
I tried it a couple of times, but found the points too arbitrary somehow. And the "free" stuff was weird in my opinion. I like the more scientific approach of being able to tweak (choose the auto version of MFP or pick TDEE for instance) and also actually grasping what's going on in the whole equation. WW as far as I know doesn't even talk about BMR, so to me the total amount of daily points just miraculously shows up somehow. Plus one has to pay to convert calories to synthetic/constructed numbers, I couldn't afford it in the long run.0

I have successfully lost almost 150 lbs following Weight Watchers. I use MFP as well. My calorie and macro goals are very close in line with my point goals given by WW. Many people on MFP completely misunderstand what the program is...even those who have tried it. It is very similar to other forms of accountability (like MFP). Eat within your range (whether that means calories or points) and be sure to follow the Good Health Guidlines (a WW term which encourages you to balance your macros appropriately). It has NOTHING to do with prepackaged meals. I have never been advised to eat my points from processed junk, always been encouraged to eat healthy, wholesome food in a balanced way.
Yes, it costs money, whereas MFP is free. But WW, if you attend meetings, provides accountability that you can't get from something online. Weighing in front of the receptionist, though I know she never judges, is motivating to me. Being a part of meetings is motivating to me. Listening to other's stories, struggles and accomplishments as well as sharing mine...in person...is just flat out better for me than doing it online. I have tried to do it without attending. I can, but I do far better while attending.
WW is not a con, or a fad or an overpriced anything. It has worked for countless people for years. And if someone gains back the weight they lost it is only because they stopped doing what they learned to do. That is no different than if you stop counting calories, measuring your foods, logging on MFP.
The one thing I have learned in my 7 years since I truly began to get healthier is to find what works for you, and do it. If it truly stops working, and it's not that you started to become lax with the guidelines or you've hit a true plateau, switch things up a bit. But falling back on what works for you...be it MFP, WW, low-carb...combination of a bunch of programs, is always smart. Having a plan is better than having no plan.
Best of luck!! I weigh in on Thursdays at WW. Feel free to add me as a friend!0
