Hey everyone. So I am trying to lose weight and I just read a article about if u dont eat enough healthy amount of calories your body will go into starvation mode. I was wondering what is a healthy amount of calories to consume for a 128lb 4"11 , 18 year old gal? I just started eating 1200 cals a day and I do insanity and burn about 400-500. Is that good? Or should I up my cals in food

Your calculated BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is 1267 calories. This is the amount of calories your body requires to sustain your life. It's also the amount of calories you would burn every day if you were in a coma. To find your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) you need to multiply your BMR by one of the following Activity Factors:
1.2 = Sedentary (Desk job, & Little Formal Exercise)
1.3-1.4 = Lightly Active (Light daily activity & light exercise 1-3 days a week)
1.5-1.6 = Moderately Active (Moderately daily Activity & Moderate exercise 3-5 days a week)
1.7-1.8 = Very Active (Physically demanding lifestyle & Hard exercise 6-7 days a week)
1.9-2.2 = Extremely Active (Athlete in ENDURANCE training or VERY HARD physical job)
Once you calculate your TDEE, it's best to subtract 15% - 20% from these calories if you're trying to lose weight and that is your calorie goal.0 -
The appropriate calorie level is different for everyone. Since you're quite short, you'll have a lower calorie need compared to someone that is 5'7" (for example). 1200 calories might be okay for you, but if you can lose weight eating more, that would be better. The problem with eating at the low end of your calorie ranges is that if you hit a plateau, you don't have much, if anywhere, you can cut from to get the scale moving. Plus, Insanity if a very demanding program and requires a bunch of energy. I would try to eat at 1400 cal/day and see if you get the results you are looking for. You can adjust from there if you are not progressing like you'd like.

IMHO, you're under eating....by a lot. You're a growing 18 yr old female. I went back in your diary, probably a week, and you have days that net at or below 1000 calories with one day as low as 565.
Your TDEE (what you need to eat per day to maintain your weight with your exercise) is over 2000
TDEE -20% is probably around ~1700.0 -
Thanks guy , I really appreciate your help. Yeah I had a really bad concept of eating calories. I thought the less I ate and the more I burned I would see better results. After a while of that eating Im guessing I really slowed down my metabolism and hit a wall. That would explain the reason I havent lost a single pound. So I am going to net my cals at 1200 and eat back what I exercise in insanity and hope for results.0
