Ok...so I was watching the infomercial for P90X...and no joke...it kinda scares me a little...I know that I would see some significant results but....eek! My question is...I had hip surgery a year ago and I am not sure I can keep up...just wondering if anyone has had any issues with doing the program. I have most of my range of motion back and I run and workout...I do have problems with side to side motion...most of the time I push through. Would I be able to do most of the program?

You will! Just take it easy & don't push so hard that you injure yourself & take yourself back to square one!! The yoga will really help your flexibility! Yes you can do this & you so should! Life changing!

you could do what i do and start off more slowly and work yourself up to p90x. Eventually i will do the p90x but for right now i'm starting with hip hop abs and zumba classes. Just work your fitness up to that level and you'll be fine :)

That's the one thing about Tony Horton that I love. He is the master of modification. He may not specify as much modification in P90X, but he does stress his motto of "Do your best and forget the rest". Listen to your body and try to have good form. You may not be able to do all of the reps that he does doing say, alternating side lunges in the legs and back workout, but do what you can. When I teach my fit club (which has a lot of older ladies who come) I always stress that they don't have to go as low or do as many reps, but I don't want them to just go to the back of the room and sit down during the exercise. They need to do something! You can do this. I have knee problems and hated exercising and am now almost done with the 3rd week of my 3rd round. :)

I was afraid of it too and now I'm in phase 3. But I have not had any surgery. I agree that Tony always says "Do your best and forget the rest". So the key is to only do what you can do. Also he has other programs that have some of the same moves that might be a little easier to start out with.

P90X is tough but in every workout Tony shows you how to modify.

The workouts I would be concerned about regarding your hip would be the following:

LEgs and Back - There are alot of lunges in that workout. Not any side to side motions but lunges put some pressure on you hip and glute area.

Yoga - Again alot of lunges but all the stretching would probably be very beneficial

Kenpo - This is a cardio workout that involves kicks to the front side and rear. You don't have to kick super high so starting out slow is perfectly fine if you;re having trouble

Plyometrics - Tony calls this the "Mother" of all P90X workouts. It is the hardest cardio program, but still nothing like Insanity. Here there is some side to side moves but if they give you trouble you can certainly limit your range of motion from left to right. This workout involves getting up in the air, with lots of jumps. Some moves are a squat to a jump where you spin 180 degrees. Again you can modify any of these moves.

It scared me too when my husband decided he wanted to try it! I was REALLY reluctant to it... however I told him that I would try it before I decided if I could or couldn't do it. Now, I'm in the middle of week 4, I'm down 4.4 pounds and I think I'm more into it than my husband! You should take the Fit Test before you start to see if this program is even going to be right for you. You might surprise yourself!!

It's a great program. If you can run then you should have no problem with the cardio portions of the DVD's. There are a lot of push-ups, however you can modify on your knees first.

Thanks for all the info everyone...I feel like there is no use working out unless you are challenging yourself...if it's hard...it's working!
