Hi All,
I figure the best motivation to have is to get engaged in a community of people all doing the same!
My name is Christine, I'm from New York and I am 27 years old. I was always petite, 5'2 and around 110lbs for all my life. To some of you, you might think "well damn, isn't she lucky!" but truth is, while I lucked out with a good metabolism, I am definitely not even NEAR in shape! So many people think that just because im petite it means im in shape but I have huffed and puffed going up just 3 flights of stairs pretty much my whole life.
My friend who I have known since i was 9 years old motivated me recently by doing the C25K last year and now is a continuous runner, and this is from someone, who like me, never got into a gym before. Another motivation is, I had to start on Lexapro for IBS (which ive had for about 2 years but was finally diagnosed last summer), and while it's helped my IBS immensely, I've also put on 10lbs that no matter of just diet alone has helped drop. My Dr thinks it has a lot of to with the Lexapro, and we're looking into alternatives.
But in the mean time, I've decided to train for a 5k myself (and possibly with my roommate!) and try to get overall fit. I run 3x a week, not fast, but I'm taking my time upping milage before I up speed. I was proud just to be able to run 15 minutes straight today, something I have never, ever done before!
I also do strength training, but for toning, not for building too much muscle mass. I've just started a 30 day squat challenge (only finished day 2!) and I'm looking forward to seeing how I can push myself.
Anyway, I just wanted to reach out, say hi, and that I'm eager to learn from all of you!

Hello!
I am also 5'2 but was never small framed. My happiest was 125 and that is what I am looking at getting back to. More importantly, as you mentioned, I want strength and endurance. I just completed my first 5k this month, have one in May and a mud run planned for June. I also joined a gym for the weight training.
All in all I am trying to stay well rounded with my journey. I also enjoy the benefits of yoga because flexibility is equally as important as the other areas.0 -
I Dream to be 5 2" I'm only 4' 10.5" yes that half counts at this size!
I'm also on Lexapro. maybe thats why I hold onto the end of the fat... who knows... or its my Moe's chips that I love.
I've had the same thing with being petite and everyone then thinks "you're fine".... and they don't see the hidden fat or, like you, the inability to do so many things! Plus, those people get in our head and we think "Ok, I'm fine, I don't have to work out".
Good for you for running! Its one thing I haven't liked yet. I've tried a lot of things but do home DVD's for now... works with my kid schedule and work.

Thanks to you both!
Nancybuss, you are SO right about people getting in your head and making you feel like you don't have to work out. Or people giving you inquisitive looks like... "well, why?"
stormbornkrak, Yoga is the one thing I've had a hard time getting into. I guess im super not flexible and I get frustrated easily when Im struggling with beginner moves. I keep saying I'll try again but then I think about how frustrating it is :-/0
