elbow pain after lifting

Are there any lifters our there experiencing elbow pain? And if so, how do you get rid of it?

I use machine weights 3x a week (bench, incline, shoulder press, seated row, lat pulldown) and then go through a series of kettlebell exercises. I've been following this routine for about 2 months now and just started experiencing pain in my right elbow, so much so that it hurts just to pick up my water bottle.

I love my routine and would hate to change it so any help would be much appreciated!

I have the same problem. I think mine started from scooping ice cream at my night job, but I feel it when I lift also. I've done some research and I think mine is "tennis elbow" or tendinitis. It sucks cause there's not a lot you can do, except rest, ice and ibuprofen or Tylenol or whatever your choice of meds are. I, personally, do not like taking NSAIDS, resting or icing so it is hard to get it to recover. I did take a week off from everything, but as soon as I start the activity again it flares up again so that didn't really work either. I have good days that it doesn't hardly hurt at all and bad days, but when it flares, I cannot grip, twist or lift anything, even a paperclip is painful. Sorry I'm really not much help except that I feel your pain and I'm sorry and it sucks. I hate being injured or having issues, especially one's that interfere with my routine. You should go see a doctor and then let me know what he says :) Good luck!

this could be tendonitis or this could be a more accute injury such as a muscle tare/sprain (which is really the same injury just different levels of severity).

I tore a musle in my forearm, the one that supinates your wrist. i haven't been to the gym since thanksgiving, i've been to PT and its still f-ed up. i waited months while continuing to excercise before going to the doctor, they were fond of saying 'the worst part is that you waited so long'. if you have insurance (and at this point everyone is supposed to lol) then go see a dr

when you said it hurt to pick up a water bottle, it sounded a lot like my issue.

the 'band-it' tennis elbow brace may also be something to consider, but please go see a dr

I've been meaning to go in for a physical anyway, guess I'll just have to add this to the list.

    thanks for your input!
