On the "theory" of cutting cardio and increasing lifting to increase weight loss... they were right IF you do it correctly. A routine such as Men's Health Spartacus workout is by far the most efficient at weight loss. However, if you cannot perform the movements of such circuit training exactly as designed, then it won't work as well. It's 10 circuits. 1 minute each. 15 second rest in between. 2 minute rest after a full cycle of 10. Do that 3 times.

I run, I lift, and both are done at a comparable level of intensity.

I see these guys "staring into space" barely breaking a sweat while lifting, taking long breaks between sets, etc. That's just not it. That's dangerous, inefficient, doesn't burn as many calories, and a waste of time.

Lifting with heavy weights in such a way that your heart rate stays elevated near the aerobic/anaerobic line, is where it's at.

Please elaborate on how lifting heavy with long rests is dangerous. I will grant it doesn't burn as many calories per minute, and may be more inefficient for fat loss, but it is distinctly not a waste of time or inefficient if your goal is maximal strength gains.

I used to work with a trainer who had me doing sets of 15 deadlifts at 85 pounds with about 60-90 seconds rest in between sets. You know what I got real good at? 85 pound deadlifts. It was never, ever going to get me deadlifting above 200. My 200 PR is but a happy, distant memory to me now. Thanks, heavy lifting and long rests! :drinker:
