i just got a treadmill...and according to the treadmill..i burned 100 calories in 15 min. (i put in my weight)
On this site- walking in the database, at the same speed only gave me 58 calories burned
and the treadmill ergometer ( dont know if thats the sam ething) gave me 137 calories burned..

the only accurate way to tell is to get a heart rate monitor. i don't know the specifics, because i have not invested in one, but it will tell you exactly what you are burning based on all the stuff going on in your body as you work out. as for the two different readings you got, i would go with mfp. i've heard that the calorie counters on machines have a tendency to run high. it seems like 100 calories for 15 minutes of walking is a bit steep. have fun with your new treadmill!

and how do u log in treadmill on here? i know there is one thing that says stair treadmill ergometer..is that the same thing?

Depends on how much you weigh and how fast you walked. As a general rule, for speeds up to 4 mph and no grade, multiply the speed times your body weight in kilograms and that will give you the rate of calories/hour burned.

On the treadmill did you put in, weight, age, and gender? If not go with the MFP, as most treadmill are set with an "average" person in mind, whatever that means.

a stair treadmill ergometer, is not a traditional treadmill, it is a cross between a treadmill and a stair master. You should go with the 58, based on what you said.

MFP takes into account age, weight and gender. The best estimate of caloric burn is to wear a HRM.

I use an estimate of 100 calories burned for every mile run or walked - whether on my treadmill or outside.

If I run at 7.5 mph for one hour, I burn 750 calories. If I walk at 4mph for an hour, I burn 400 calories etc etc.

It is, however, underestimated. Better underestimated than overestimated though.
