If by "workout" you mean dancing like a fool in my living room to the beat of really fast music for a half hour, my two favorites are

    Master of Puppets by Metallica
Rock and Roll by Led Zeppelin

It's times like that I'm glad I live alone.

    Depends on the work-out.... :)

If I'm doing Cardio, I LOVE

    Roar - Katy Perry
Like a Champion - Selena Gomez

I generally hate that kind of music though. So when I'm lifting, I listen to lots of Pierce the Veil and Chiodos. :X

Love your suggestions! I really like White Zombie's La Sexorcisto, Justice's Cross album, Chromeo, and Girl Talk. I need to add some more jams in there - some poppy up-beat stuff would be good!

Almost anything by MGMT although i had a great workout last week to late 80's all-girl club music like The Cover Girls and Expose so it really is a mood thing. Nothing better than a banger coming on at the very end of your cardio workout to finish in a sprint.

"Try" and "F*cking Perfect" by P!nk. I know they're not crazy-upbeat fast songs, but they're a good tempo for steady work, while simultaneously filling me with motivation. Nothing makes me run faster than hearing "You've gotta get up and try, try, try!"

I coach middle school basketball and a few years ago, I decided to start practices with up-tempo techno music and mashups. They also work really well for workout music.

My reliable favorites come from a California DJ named Party Ben. He had a half hour radio show about ten years ago where he would play a straight 30 minutes of techno mashups which included a lot of songs from my youth (80's). I downloaded them all and filter some of them through my iPod.

He is remastering his old files and has up to #39 posted today:

    http://www.partyben.com/sixxmixx/

Every once in a while he would do a best of the year program and those were really great. #84, #100 and #111 are the ones currently on my iPod (a favorite, a best of 2005? and his last one).

More recently, I look for mashups and remixes on Soundcloud.

MixmsterStel 2, danielkimmusic, djschmolli and djearwom are some of myfavorites there (and many of whose remixes and mashups are freely downloadable).

I get some really strange looks from other parents when they see this 45 year old fat white guy rocking these tunes in the gym at practices!

I Love It by Icona Pop. Seriously fun to do cardio to.
  • Today I made a crazy walking mix. My taste in music is totally eclectic.

Would I Lie To You?--The Eurythmics, It's My Life--No Doubt, Vivir Mi Vida (Yo Fred Remix)--Marc Anthony, Mi Confession--Gotan Project, Who Loves You--Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, I Believe--Yolanda Adams, Grand Guignol--Bajofondo, Sweet Child Of Mine--GNR, Baby I'm A Star--Prince, Good Feeling--Flo-Rida, El Mareo--Bajofondo

All over the place but the same beat.
