  • I am somewhat fat-footed and over-pronate somewhat, too. I am a woman but I wear men's size 9 Brooks running shoes (I wear an 11 in normal women's shoes).

I was fitted at a specialty running store here in New Orleans, and the staff really took their time with me. The right shoes helped sooooo much. I was wearing Sketchers before and had started to develop plantar fasccitis, and once I got in the right shoes and did a few weeks of recovery, I never had that problem again.

I'm a Brooks fan, hands down. When my fiance started training for his first marathon, I took him to the same place that fitted me. He was super picky and tried on almost every shoe they had in his size in the store... but he ended up leaving with a pair of Brooks, too. Best shoes for running or walking that I've ever used.

I just started running and have flat feet as well (plus bad knees, ankles, and pronate). I really recommend going to a running store to get fitted properly, they helped me a ton and really helped me understand what I needed and what to look for in a shoe.

Are your flat feet due to Genetics or from injury/some other cause? If you are naturally flat-footed you may not require any extra support in your shoes since your body is built that way and has adapted to it (that ended up being the case with me). Otherwise, the running store I went to suggested I find a shoe that felt right for my foot, then add an insert if required.

I ended up selecting a pair of Hoka Stinson's, with the Brook's Adrenalin coming in a close second. The extra cushioning in the Hoka's is amazing to run on!

Flat feet here too and I've always found Brooks to be best for me. Won't win any fashion award, but I can walk 5+ miles and have no foot or ankle pain.
