I started this a week ago when I found it as an app on my droid and I am waiting to see results. I gained .6 pounds following this and walking. Go figure that one out.

As long as you are being honest with yourself (and accurate with your portion sizes), your body will end up responding. Sometimes is just takes a little extra while for things to happen. Don't lose faith in yourself. We've all been in the same situation at one time or another. Just keep plugging ahead and you'll get there.

If it makes you feel any better...I gained 5 lbs a week after I started MFP. I ended up losing it luckily, but this week, I ganied almost a pound so that was frustrating. I did lose a half an inch off my waist and 1.5 inches off of my hips, so that was the good part. Keep doing what you're doing and do not give up. You'll get there and some weeks will be better than others!

Well, I don't know anything about how you are using this, but here are a few tips that can be very helpful to someone new to the site!

    1) Measure everything. You'd be surprised at how often your guesses can be wrong. Way over, or even way under. Both can make a difference!

    2) Drink lots of water. Those 8 cups? They might not be enough, depending on how much weight you need to lose, how much sodium you intake, how dry your climate is, and other more illusive factors. Start with half your body weight in ounces, see if you still feel thirsty at any point in the day when trying to drink them.

    3) Eat your exercise calories. Give your body the fuel it needs to perform it's most basic functions so that it can perform the function of turning fat into glucose without straining other systems.

    4) Measure yourself. I recommend, pecs, waist, hips, upper thighs, lower thighs, calves and upper arms. If you're doing this for the long haul, there will definitely be times when you have gained a pound of muscle and lost a pound of fat. The scale can't show you that, but your measuring tape will. This can get you through a long or short plateau.

    5) Understand that Rule 4 can apply to the beginning. If you have suddenly increased your walking, you may have spurred muscle growth at a faster rate than your body has responded to the weight loss. For some people it takes a little while for your body to get the message that it's okay to start shedding fat under the lower calorie conditions.

6)Take it easy on yourself. By making a commitment to being healthier and getting fit for the long haul, you are in for a world of change, which can be really overwhelming. It may not be the best idea to start out with a two pound a week weight loss goal, even if you have a lot of weight to lose. To give your mind and body time to adjust, you may want to start the first few weeks at half a pound or a pound a week. A dramatic cut in calories definitely involves eating smaller portions, and that takes your stomach a while to adjust to. It does adjust though! If you are doing this right, you won't have to feel hungry forever!

    7) Grab a carrot. Celery. Airpopped popcorn. Anything that is super low calorie but munchie and filling. You don't want to constantly feel deprived, so eat small healthy snacks between meals, just don't go over your daily calorie limit. Keeping healthy snacks in the house is a huge key to success.

    8) Stick to it! If you are eating a reasonable amount of calories and exercising you will lose weight unless you have a medical condition that interferes. It is a good idea to see a doctor before starting a new fitness regime anyway, though eating more veggies and less pizza isn't exactly something most doctors will advise against. Still, if you feel like your body is not responding the way it should to a healthy diet, then you should see your doctor. He or she may be able to tell you something simple to adjust, or give you much needed treatment.

    9) Enjoy yourself! Make friends on the forums, comment on their successes and disappointments, write blog posts, and encourage others. This is a wonderful community that wants success for all!!

    10) Drink lots of water. Wait, did I say that already? Well, go get a cup to drink right now!!!

    Good luck ;)
  • It is a week later and finally seeing some results. Thank you for your support and encouragement.
