Calorie Burn on Low Impact?

Hi:
I am just wondering how you could calculate the calorie burn on a super low impact/low intensity workout? I was at beer-league slow pitch practice last night (although no beer). And I was in fairly constant motion for about 1.5 hours but at now point did I see my heart rate go up. But based on how sore I am today I think a did some work. I have no idea how to track this. When I look up slow pitch in the exercise files it tells me the burn would be about 479 calories in one hour, I think this is crazy high. Any suggestions??

I know this is an obvious one, but try looking into a HRM! I finally took the plunge a couple of months ago, and I'm so glad that I did. Wasn't as expensive as I'd expected, and I use it every time I do anything - ride my horse, work out, go for a walk, etc.
I don't know much about slow-pitch, but it sounds like you were really just working your muscles. Without the cardio to get your heart rate up, you weren't burning that many calories. Its still so good for your body, but you may not have burned many calories. I'm afraid I can't even give you a good estimate. I'm sorry :S
But your picture is fantastic!0 -
Actually, working out the muscles is what burns weight. It doesn't have to be a full cardio workout to burn off calories. I burn a lot of calories gardening which is mild muscle work and no cardio. Especially if I run the tiller or weed.0

A HRM is not going to be even remotely accurate for a slow pitch softball game/practice. A HRM is only relatively acurate for a steady state aerobic event if you are in reasonably good shape and don't have any other heart issues like a high RHR, untreated hypertension, etc.0 -
