Dayquil Sadness

Hi you guys,

I've been down with a terrible chest cold since last week. It's finally beginning to get a little better, but I'm still pretty miserable. I just thought that I would share an experience with you, guys, in case there's someone else out there that finds themselves in a similar position.

Yesterday afternoon was my first day coming out of that really weak, light headed, phase. I was about to take my "Giver of Life" (lol) Dayquil, when it dawned on me that I hadn't been logging it into my food diary. I thought "Nah, it's medicine! ......... Let me check, just in case!"

Sure enough, 93 calories per dose. :( Because I've been eating so close to my (1580) calorie mark, that means that I've been going over by almost 300-360 calories a day! A friend of mine mentioned that the pills/gel tabs might be better, lower calorie options to choose from, but since I've just purchased a new bottle, I'll have to finish this one first.

Are the pills less traumatic to us food loggers? Thank you for your help!

I can't answer your question but if you're going over by a few hundred cals for a short time because you've taken something while you were sick, I wouldn't sweat it at all. Just wait until you're better and get back in the game!

When I'm ill, my priority is to get well, not to lose weight.

Assuming you're normally maintaining a calorie deficit, then 300 extra calories a day probably means you're either losing slower than you would, or possibly maintaining. Oh noes ;)

Get better, then worry about losing weight.

That makes me feel a little better. I was able to go for a nice long walk on Tuesday, but my son is sick now, too, so nothing since then.

Thanks for making me feel a little better. I'm be back out there just as soon as my nose decides to stop being evil. Lol! It would be nice to be able breathe, without breaking out the dynamite, you know?
