frozen berries?

I bought some frozen berries this week for smoothies, but I wanted to try them plain with some light cool whip. I also wanted to use them possibly on oatmeal or with yogurt, but after thawing some out they are really tart and taste kind of funny from being frozen (to me anyways). Any suggestions? Fresh berries are SO expensive, and I'd really like to use this alternative but I need them to taste better =]

Maybe a little Splenda or Truvia.0

I use frozen berries a lot, but I have to put Splenda on them before they are sweet enough. I don't think I could eat them without it. Another thing about frozen berries the consistency is not the same a fresh. They are more mushy but in smoothies that wouldnt make a difference.0

there's nothing to be done about the texture. When you freeze a berry all the water inside becomes little ice razor blades that pop all the cell walls. Once they thaw they are all busted and mushy. But they are the perfect thing for smoothies and to mixed into and oatmeal. Anything where having a whole berry isn't important anymore. You may need to add sweeteners. Another thing to remember is that some berries that are chosen for freezing are chosen because they weren't good enough to be eaten fresh. This probably means they are a cheaper variety and possibly not as sweet. Sorry if this is all bad news. The good news is that they are still perfect for what you bought them for smoothies!
Oh, you could puree them all up and mix it with them really well with the cool whip, this makes a super quick berry mousse! Yay!0 -
I love mixing fozen berries into my vanilla yogurt. It's REALLY yummy (sometimes they are a bit tart but I just add a little honey)0

How are you thawing them? I find it works best if you just set them out to room temperature. That's what I do with frozen berries and yogurt.. after 3 hours of being left out at room temperature they are pretty tasty. You could try adding some honey in with them if you find them too tart still.0

I eat them frozen mixed in with some vanilla yogurt!! It's very yummy and you don't notice the tart taste. Also when they are frozen you don't get the weird texture thing that you get after thawing them out.0
