How do you work out calories spent in pool ?

Having had recent hip replacements (second time for me on same hip, 3rd time in 2 yrs for my partner in same hip) we've been sent to our local pool / gym via a GP referral system, following hydrotherapy in the hospital.

We spent an hour in the pool today, walking, doing squats, using foam weights, lunge stepping, jumping jacks etc, we also spent five minutes in the sauna mid way through and ten minutes in the Jacuzzi following it.

Our problem is how on earth do we work out what sort of calories we spent doing this? We did a wide variety of exercise, half of the time with weights on our ankles, most of the time using weights in our hands and pushing down against the water. We varied the depth of the water we were in so that we had higher body use at times. We also swam (backstroke) for a short while.

Thanks a lot !

if there's no aqua aerobics or exercise category, i'd probably list it as leisurely swimming or something like that as long as the burn rate seems reasonable

That sounds lovely! They make waterproof heart rate monitors if you're interested in accurately tracking calories burned in the pool :)
