Heart Rate Monitor Drop Signals?

Forgive me if this sounds very ignorant. Does woods or heavy metal contructions affect Heart Rate Monitor's accuracy? I asked because my new Polar FT 60 did the same thing as my previous FT 4 today. It dropped heart rate to 90 when I was running at 9:30 pace...which is impossible. I noticed I was going through an area with some woods but not extremely dense around some residential houses...Could this affect its accuracy? Or is it broken again?
