Help! Calories in an avocado

I've been trying to be more accurate with my calorie counts lately so I have been weighing everything before I eat it. I recently bought a bag of avocados and weigh each one whole before slicing it or mashing it up into guacamole. My problem is, how do i translate that weight into an accurate calorie count? The fruits weigh between 8-12 oz each whole, but I can't find anywhere that will calculate what that translates into once prepared. If I put it into the USDA calorie calculator this way it comes out as as a minimum of over 400 calories for 9 oz and I'm pretty sure that's not accurate. Any suggestions? How can I figure out how much of that raw, whole weight it actually edible? Do I have to just suck it up and weigh it again once I've prepared it? I'd prefer not to, but if I must...

Thanks!

It makes more sense to weigh it after you cut it. Doesn't seem like that would take too much time.

Does your scale have a tare function? It should! Just drop the avocado parts you're using into a bowl at 0 and it will tell you how much for the avocado. I find that a small-ish one has about 120 grams of meat in it.

I oz = 28 grams, so enter it in your food log as :avocado raw usda, and choose the selection of 100 grams. Click the arrow to get to 1 gram and enter how many grams your avocado weighted and voila, you are done.

Just make sure that you don't count the pit and the skins, so like another posted mentioned just separate what you are going to eat or use and weigh only that.

Thanks for the responses. I did find an article that said most avocados have a fairly consistent edible portion of about 70%, so I used that to calculate tonight's meal. But in the future I will use the "zero" function on my scale and just weigh the edible flesh portion. I'll use the same bowl I'm mixing it in so I don't have to dirty another dish.

Good luck to you all and have a happy weekend!
