Metabolism Question

I just had shoulder surgery.on Friday. I am on a lot of pain killers, and the side effect for me is a complete loss of appetite. I have managed to force myself to eat a little bit, but everything tastes off as well.
I am here to lose weight, but healthily only.
Will a few days of eating like a bird destroy my metabolism? Are there any really nutritious shakes out there?

It won't destroy your metabolism for a few days. I believe that people can fast for maximum of 72 hours without bad effects on the metabolism.0

You'll be fine. I'd look at meal replacement shakes though.0

When I want a meal replacement shake, I use the GNC Total lean shakes. They taste good, are filling, and pack in 25 grams of protein. 170 calories per shake, but I don't think that's too bad considering all the protein I get from them.
Bear in mind that they are processed, so they do contain 390mg of sodium and 2g of sugar, but most processed foods will have sodium and sugar content.0 -
Just make sure they have vitamins etc and not just protein.0

While I think you'll be ok anyways, you might wanna try drinking calories also in the form of (pure!) fruit and veggie juices, milk etc. I'm not a fan of processed shakes and these things so that's what I did when I couldn't really eat for a couple of days.0

^^This. It takes longer than a few days to ruin your metabolism.
Get someone to make you smoothies with ingredients you like if you can't do it yourself. If you're on a lot of meds, your GI tract is going to be traumatized. I would hesitate to tell you to drink protein shakes as they can be harsh on the healthiest of bodies.0 -
Thanks so much!! I will try some shakes. I'm sure I could do that0

no you'll be fine, the largest recorded slowdown of metabolic rate is from the minnesota starvation study, which was 40%, 25% of which was purely from loss of bodymass, and that was after 6 MONTHS of them starving themselves on like 800 cals a day0

The idea that you can easily "destroy" your metabolism is a myth, you will be fine your body is much more resilient than that You should eat what you can though, best to have the calories for recovery of your shoulder you know.
I once went about 14 days netting about negative 3000 calories per day and I was fine.0
