I bought $50 walking shoes from a fitness store and I've noticed that if i walk longer then 45min on the treadmill i have been getting a really sore cramp pain in my foot. I walk on 5 incline level at a pretty quick pace
Is this from the shoes or just from maybe walking weirdly? I am flat footed so maybe i just need to wear the padding in

If i try stretching it out my foot goes into cramp mode haha like when you have a leg cramp! the only i can do is just wait 15min and it starts to go away.. I don't think it's anything serious but always good to make sure0 -
Are you well hydrated? Did you get the shoes fitted?0

What do you mean by 'walking shoes' and 'fitness store'??
Did they do gait analysis before recommending several different shoes for you to try??
Does it happen when you walk outside??0 -
Hard to tell without seeing you walk.
I just bought new shoes yesterday. I have horrible feet...high arches, bunions, weak ankles...so my feet bother me a lot. As bad as I hated to do it I ended up spending $180 dollars on one pair of shoes. Hopefully they will solve some of the problems that I have been having.
I walk a lot...so spending that much will be worth it if they feel good and prevent some of the pain that I was having.
Not all sporting good stores have people that know how to fit your foot and make the right recommendations. They are there just to sell you a pair of shoes.
Also...some of your pain can be caused by your walking form which the right pair of shoes will help. My ankles want to turn inward so the new shoes that I have has something called a roll bar in them that is supposed to help alleviate that. I also have a tendency to walk with my feet pointed outwards.
Have someone watch you walk and see if they can pick up anything.
Good luck...when your feet hurt...your whole body hurts!0 -

yes it does happen if i walk outside for a long period of time, i didn't get them fitted but they did talk to me about the best shoes for walking and recommended those (out of the cheap section, i couldn't afford more at the time)
The store is called jim kidd it sells all sport related items0 -
Did you work up to this intensity (over several weeks) or did you start walking this long and at that incline all at once.
If it's the latter, you could have developed a stress injury.
Any exercise of any intensity or long duration should be eased into or you're inviting injury.0 -

Thanks for putting the time to say all this, let me know how the new pair of shoes go
I will film myself the next time i walk, i feel like i walk normally but sometimes i lose balance a little bit so i could be doing something odd hahaha I am not the sporty type that is for sure. I might need to get an expensive pair fitted because you are right when my foot starts to hurt it really does put me off the workout and i start to only feel that0 -

I started walking for 25 - 30 min at 3 or 4 incline and i have upped it.. quite quickly but i don't feel like i am pushing myself too much in regards to fitness level. I only start to sweat after 45 min0 -
After having a lot of problems wearing the wrong shoes, I finally got smart and now buy "good" shoes. I have flat arches and I pronate (ankles roll in.)
I'm not in a position to buy expensive shoes either, but after determining the best kind of shoe for me from getting my feet/walk analyzed at a New Balance store, I now exclusively buy New Balance shoes in the right style for my foot. I get them from Joe's New Balance outlet online....their closeouts. I also have NB inserts that properly fit my foot problem. I now do not suffer any of the problems I used to.
You may just need to break in your shoes, too. Or possibly the right kind of insert will help.0 -
I would say to get your gait analysis done at a running store, maybe buy your first pair of shoes there and then buy subsequent pairs online where you can get them cheaper, proper fitting shoes are an investment:)0

It's not the fitness level you have to worry about. I could run 10 miles right now because I'm fit enough to do it cardiovascular and muscle wise but since my joints, ligaments, and tendons aren't used to that type of activity for that duration, I run a high risk of hurting myself. If I went to the pool and starting the first day, swam laps hard for 30 minutes, I could injure my joints despite the fact that I'm the fitter now than when I was in my 20s and running 15 mile routes on the weekends and 30 miles total during the weekdays.
It's something to keep in mind. Many overuse injuries are slow to heal so if it's a possibility, you should address it immediately. It took forever for my hip bursitis to heal, over 6 months for the pain to stop whenever I'd walk further than a mile, when I upped my running mileage too quickly. I did not heed the 5-10% increase rule and I payed for it. It led to almost 3 years of poor fitness and 25 lbs gained.0 -
you may need orthotics. they've made a world of difference for me!0

For the foot cramping, restore flexibility into your arches by stretching them hourly, and also wear a Strassburg sock. You can buy one sock and alternate between feet each night. Here's the foot stretch:

Nedw Balance is what I wear also. They have a wider toe box than some other brands and with my wide foot I need all the room that I can get.
They are expensive but well worth it to me. I buy most of my clothing at thrift stores on discount days so I don't feel bad about spending so much on shoes.0
