Just wondering...

When you eat your total calorie allotment for one day, does it still work for you if you exercise afterward? Say you eat all of your calories and don't really exercise at all that day, then at the end of the night you go for a nice long walk. Does your body have time to store a lot of fat? I guess I would like to know how long it takes for the body to store fat and if working out at night is still effective. Does anyone have an idea?
I was also curious about how accurate the calorie burner calculator is when you input things such as "playing catch" and "leisurely walk". Does it calculate the amount of calories you burn based on your height/weight/etc.?
Just want to get it all right so I can continue my path to enLIGHTenment.

I recently purchased a heart rate monitor to double check my workout calories burned, and for me (for the record, I weight 135-ish nowadays) it's been surprisingly accurate. With a few exceptions, mostly that I burn more than what is says here during. The main thing is to honestly describe your effort level. I do lots of "leisurely walking" myself, and call it that.
If you'd like to message me (if you're not comfortable sharing your stats here) we could compare notes further, in order to answer your "does the site adjust for your individual stats" question, because I'm not sure.
Oh, and you're body isn't on a schedule, and any moving is good for you, anytime. I usually plan both my exercise and my food for the day at the beginning of the day. This does a couple of things: removes the guesswork for eating, and commit me to exercising (I'm an afternoon/evening exerciser.)
Whoo, I typed a lot. Hope that helps.:flowerforyou:

Nice profile pic, Amy!
I personally have found that the calorie estimates for exercises on the site are too high for me. It probably depends on how much you have to lose - it might be closer for Vivia because she's already at goal, with a higher percentage of muscle versus fat.
I also agree that as long as you are working out, any time is good. My belief (though I wouldn't mind if Banks or SongByrd could confirm or deny) is that as long as you are running at a calorie deficit overall, you'll be burning fat rather than storing it - it doesn't really matter what time. You still need to burn calories to stay alive overnight (I wore my heart rate monitor overnight the other day and it said I burned 660 calories in 8 hours) so once you've burned any available carbs you'll start burning fat.0 -
Thanks for responding!
I think it may just be because it's spring, but I am finding a renewed interest in becoming healthy and maintaining that health. I am finding it harder and harder to allow myself to eat anything that won't benefit me in some way. (This is a good thing!)
I also LOVE nature, so of course I am outside moving my body! It feels really great to be able to do that, but I am always concerned that I am supposed to be following some "code of eating/exercise" that everyone else is privy to but me. I know that's probably not true, but, aside from eating healthy and working out, I feel that the whole world is doing something I'm not. Maybe it's because I'm relatively new to sharing my weight loss experience with others?
Anyway, I can certainly respect your answers, especially since you both seem to appreciate great art!0 -
Amy, this is off your topic, but just wondering from your profile- what is a "T-Magnum" message board?0
-
Well, I was bored and started googling different weight loss things and this message board came up from a website called T-Nation. This is a website for body builders. Their forums are called T-Magnum.
So as I was reading along, I was horrified at the way these people were talking about overweight individuals. :noway: I couldn't believe the things they were saying!
For most people, I don't think this would be very motivating, but it is for me. I don't want to be one of those people that other "fit" people look at and secretly get disgusted.
One person on that board brought up a good point:
Maybe overweight/obese people are not lazy, they just don't want to join a community that doesn't accept them!
If you want to check it out, here is the website. This is the thread I started reading.

Just don't let any of it discourage you, and if you feel repulsed by it - don't keep reading! I'm worried for others who might stumble on this and let it dictate how they feel about themselves.0 -
Thanks! I will check it out, especially since I normally respond in the same way you did- I would find that a challenge rather than an attitude killer!0
