belly fat

Ive been on my weight loss journey since the end of February, i started at 128(hw: 134) and now im almost at my goal weight(115) cw: 116. The problem is i dont want to go under 115, although its normal for some considering im only 5'1, im 20 and i constantly hear that i look 13-16, if i go under 115 id look more pubescent (lol!) . my problem is my bellys nowhere near as slim as id like it to be, ive been mainly losing weight in my legs, a little on my arm,and some of my face. Although my bellys not as bad as it use to be it tends to look bloated most of the time, i know its impossible to spot reduce but does anyone know some tricks or tips to slim my belly down while not going too much under 115?

I am the same height as you and, though my preferred weight is 10 lbs less than yours, I STILL have belly fat!! But I just have a figure that curves forward some at the waist, which means my tummy tends not to ever be flat. I am 1.5 lbs away from my goal (105) and I still have some tummy fat. Blah. I think once I get to my goal it will improve-- every pound lost makes a significant difference for people our size-- but the thing I hear all the time (and I'm sure you'll hear it too, in this thread) is to lift weights. I was doing strength training steadily for a couple of weeks and noticed changes in my stomach by the end of the second week-- tiny changes, but noticeable to me, because I am very sensitive to my tummy's appearance. I have been overwhelmingly busy for the last week and stopped the weight training, but am starting up again tomorrow so hopefully will see more results!

Hopefully some of the weight training experts will see this, but if you lift weights that are heavy (for you), your body will slowly change and you'll build more muscle, which eventually will result in less tummy fat.

Do a search on here for "getting rid of belly fat" or something similar- there are many threads with very similar questions and lots of good advice.
  • Increase your water intake and do an ab challenge. I am fighting this too, and have found this to be the culprit. You are def. thin enough.
  • @creiddylad , you're right, i should up the weight training and cut back on the cardio! , thank you and good luck on your journey :)

Ab work doesn't reduce the waistline girth.

If you don't want to lose any more weight, but help reduce fat, eat at maintenance and do some progressive overload lifting. Work on changing your body composition.

Also, check your posture. People who slouch, even a little, don't usually have a flat belly. Good posture will work your core a lot more, regardless of what you are doing, and your stomach will look flatter instantly.

You should still do a lot of core work. Trainer guy says it wont reduce the girth of your midsection but it will approve the appearance of it as your posture gets better and all those muscles get stronger. If you're going to start lifting, and you should IMO, a strong core is very important.
  • I have just started weight lifting, but since I stopped doing the ab exercises at home, there is def. a difference, that's why I am getting back to it, it is free and easy. I am doing both at this point.

    This.
  • Thank you for saying that, As I was just standing up straight in the mirror.. I have abs and look thin.. As soon as I sit down, plow, the gut comes out over the shorts. I will be more mindful of posture. Thanks again for the inspiration!
