C25K - fears...

so i'm still on week 5 of c25k, repeating days 1 and 2 at least twice each because i have been "afraid" i couldnt do the 2 mile run on day 3....
yesterday i went to the beach to do my regular sunday morning walk of 3.1ish miles - i typically walk out 1.55 miles (to a specific seawall) and then turn around and walk back...well yesterday i decided i would walk to the Ritz Hotel which is actually 2 miles from where i start from the pier...i had plenty of time on my meter to do 4 miles of walking....well when i got to the Ritz i was at about 230 calories burned on my HRM so i decided i would go to 250 calories so i could have a good 500 calorie burn for the day...well then i realized if i kept walking out i eventually would have to walk back lol and i wouldnt have enough time on my meter (ticket would have been a pain in the *kitten*)...so i figured whatever, i'll just do some running intervals on the way back - maybe day 1 or day 2 of wk 5 which is 1/2 mile or 3/4 mile intervals of running with 1/2 mile or 1/4 mile of walking....i got out to 2.5 miles and turned around and started running (barefoot on the beach in the surfline) and just kept running....my running program on my iphone tells me when i have reached 1/4 miles and i thought okay i'll go 1/2 mile, then i got there and was like i'll go 3/4 mile and then i got there and i thought i'll go 1 mile and so on and so forth until i got to like 1 1/2 miles and i was like what the hell is wrong with you??? you aren't tired....you are doing awesome....you can see the pier and it is only like 1 mile away, just keep running until you get day 3 of week 5 done - 2 miles of straight running.....i did and then i realized, seriously girlie, you only have a 1/2 a mile until you are back to the start, KEEP GOING!!!!!!!!!!
so i did......i RAN RAN RAN 2.5 miles straight yesterday on the beach....i completed 5 miles in 1 hr and 23 minutes - about 47 mins of walking and 36 minutes of running....anyway, i am very proud of myself and am looking forward to doing day 3 of week 5 on the pavement tonight after work and then moving onto week 6 - yikes what will that bring??? LOL....

It's amazing what doing a little extra adds up to, isn't it! Good for you! I've been doing C25K as well and I can now run 45 minutes at once - the problem is that's still not 5k! Oh well, I will get there eventually!

    High Fives!!!!

I just started C25K and I'm about to do my third workout (day 3 of week 1)

Seeing that someone else has been able to surprise themselves with their own running ability makes me happy :)

That is so cool. It's amazing what we can do if we just try.
  • WOW - congratulations. I just finished W3/D3 of C25K and am scared to death of the rest of the program so your post was very inspirational. I also know if I have to repeat some of the workouts, that's OK. Thanks for sharing.

When I finally talked myself into W5/D3. I really didn't think I could do it. That happens to be about the time I started barefoot running. I ended up staying on W5/D3 for a couple of weeks. Now I'm trying to talk myself into W6/D3.
