Water retention

I'm heavier by almost 1 lb in the morning, than in the afternoon. I assume this has to do with water retention... I can also fluctuate prior to menses anywhere between 1 - 5 lbs of weight "gained" then "lost" within the week prior. I'm not one for taking medications/supplements etc, if not completely needed. I've heard that drinking more water can actually help with bloating etc... Any thoughts?

1 lb gained overnight is most certainly water retention/poop/not fat gained. Yes, drinking more water can help with water retention/bloat.0

It's normal for your weight to fluctuate around your period. It's normal for your weight to fluctuate from day-to-day and even hour-by-hour. You don't need to take anything to "help" with this. Try not to think of water weight and weight fluctuations as a bad thing. They're normal, healthy functions of your body.
That said, yes drinking plenty of water will help your body to retain less water.0 -
Drinking more water does help with bloating and puffiness. Drink, drink drink, and then drink some more. Also, watch your sodium intake.
I did a quick google search on "water retention" there is a lot of information. I suggest doing some research as I am not one that will explain it the best0 -

Thank you!
I Google too often haha! I appreciate all of the scientifically studied info, but it lacks the personal experience that I like to hear about0 -

Very true. All I know is that I've started basing it on if I can get my rings off or not. If not, I drink a ton of water.0 -

Do keep in mind that water retention is natural and actually something that can be good for your body. If you drink tons of water and try to avoid sodium at all costs you can actually do yourself harm. Really I think its healthiest to just not worry about it and be less focused on your scale weight on a day to day basis and more on your overall progress longterm.0 -

Hey, I'm not one to comment on anyone's sodium intake haha. I put salt on EVERYTHING. I only realize how much I've eaten when I'm feeling puffy and I think back on what I ate earlier and it all makes sense. Then I up my water intake because the feeling of being puffy and your fingers swollen like sausages has got to be one of the most unpleasant feelings and I want to get rid of it ASAP.
I also never said to avoid sodium at all costs0
