How long are you considered a newbie...

When it comes to strength training and gaining muscle mass? From reading multiple posts, I have learned that you cannot gain muscle unless you are eating at a surplus. That you cannot gain muscle while trying to lose weight eating at a deficit simultaneously. The exception is if you are obese or a newbie (what I read).
So my question is if you are a newbie, how long are you going to continue to build muscle mass, before it stops? When are you no longer a newbie. If you stop a strength training program, what is the amount of time off considered too long before you are considered a newbie again. Or is that how it even works? Am I asking the right questions? I apologize if I am not, but I have to understand what I am trying to ask before I can ask the right way

My understanding that newbie gains esp for a woman are measured in ounces...nothing serious.
When are you no longer a newbie.....ah not sure...I consider myself a newbie lifter after 7 months on a return...it will be a while before I consider myself an intermediate lifter...
I don't think this newbie thing is repeatable...you are either new to lifting or returning, I was returning 7months ago and I didn't get muscle gain I just got strength gains quicker than most...or that's what I feel happened.0 -
