Hi!
So, ive recently had a baby and finally managed to drop the baby weight.
thing is, i dont look fit at all, i just look skinny and somewhat soft
can anyone help me with trainings?
anything i can do at home to look tight and fit? or do i need to join a gym?

I can't wait for replies to this........ I have super thin arms and legs and a 35 inch waist! I'm probably the perfect example of skinny fat. I've tried dieting because it doesn't matter if I'm 95 lbs or 115 lbs, I still have the belly that won't go away.

For the past nearly 12 weeks, I've cut carbs, eating at almost my maintenance calories, and have been heavy lifting. I ran on the treadmill for nearly a year and still looked exactly the same so I'm trying this for a while. At this point, though, I can see some muscle changes in my arms, but the dang belly looks the same although I did lose an inch. I'm really very curious what advice people give you.

Hey! You can definetly do EVERYTHING at home,i never been at a gym and let me tell you...lost 12lbs and gained lean mass and now i weigh more and dont have all that fat, just muscle.

Do you want to lose fat?even if its only a bit. If you want to look fit,i can help you! start lifting weights, eating more protein.
Tell want you want, for your legs,do you want to build some muscle but not look bulky?do bodyweight training,and...eat protein.
If you want to have a toned tummy, cut on the carbs,do a little of cardio ,then do some bodyweight for the core, and once again..eat protein.

The ideal is to do some cardio, not too much because you dont have a lot of fat,do cardio on some days only. And lifting, start by doing exercises with your own bodyweigh and then the lifting!its more easy for your body and you will see more progression because you are progressing by adding the weighs! by some anckle weights to gain toned and fit legs!

You can do this at home, fitness blender on youtube is free and has every exercise you need for your goals!
hope i helped,if you need some more tips feel free to add me :)

/sorry for the grammar,im not english fluent.

You are not apple shaped...apple shape means you would have a round/large middle section.

Nor do you look like you need to change anything, except gain a few pounds.

this is your FIRST post since you started on here in 2012?...hmm strange!

Don't see any stretch marks either from so called baby bump? you must be one of the lucky ones.

she is apple shape becaus she gains more on the mid section than on the rest of the body.
    even if she is thin.

but I don't see any excess weight on the OP anywhere.
Its more likely that cos OP is so slim that when she eats then yes her tummy might protrude a little, but that's normal (for us all)

ps I would agree with Fitness blender being good and getting into strength training, it really shapes the body well :)

If you really think you should lose 17 lbs as your profile says, it is time to see a dr. It looks like you should gain a bit, there is nothing to lose. If you are interested in strength training to build some muscle that could help you get in better shape, but it will also mean gaining some weight - not fat.

I would not say you're apple shaped at all, but as to your "soft" comment, my biggest recommendation would be heavy lifting! Get into a heavy lifting program like New Rules of Lifting for Women. I've also heard Stronglifts and Starting Strength are good as well. Either way, it doesn't look like you have much, if any weight to lose, you are probably looking more to "tone up", yes? Weights weights weights!

eat your protein! eat at maintenance, at a minimum. do resistance/bodyweight training, or join a gym and start lifting! (Stronglifts 5x5 is an excellent way to start, for you, I think.)

    good luck!

That was my first post too after being on this site for a long time. I'm trying to learn and don't generally like message boards, but her and I are built so much alike, I wanted to. I am trying to lose 12lbs.

She's a skinny apple which is the shape I've been battling my whole life, I'd be willing to bet, prior to losing the baby weight, she probably still had fairly thin arms and legs. OP, please correct me if I'm wrong, but that's been what I have struggled with. I also have one child and don't have a single stretch mark, sometimes, I think the apple shape is what saved me from stretch marks.

OP, I'm still hoping for some good advice for you (us) I think it might be a matter of body recomp, hopefully somebody will know better than me.

Lift heavy - pick a program with the big barbell lifts.
Eat slightly above maintenance. It looks like you need to add some muscle, especially in the upper legs.
Get tons of protein err day.

Your minor belly fat will probably go away once you add some muscle. I couldn't cut down to a legit 6 pack until I put on about 15 lbs of muscle.

    You want to lose weight?

Do cardio(check out fitness blender on youtube if you dont wanna spend money).
Cut the simple carbs- white bread/rice and switch for brown, but cut on the bread.
Quinoa is a really good substitute for brown rice,it has a lot more nutriens and low glicemic level.
Eat protein in the morning, when you wake up your body is still "eating"the calories of mantaining the body while you sleep,if you eat protein you cut even more, why add sugar/fat ?
eat like natural oatmeal with greek yogurt and hazelnuts.

DRINK WATER! much of our weight is water, our body acumulates water if we dont drink enough!
eat at least 1,5l of water.

Eat protein before and after working out, protein is gonna help you build lean muscle and burn the fat around.
choose lean meat, like chicken, turkey and fish, egg whites are very good two! in the morning you can eat an omelete with turkey ham,and a fat blasting breakfast!

eat healty fats like hazelnuts and macadamia nuts.

if you eat carbs, like fruit and brown rice or even bread, always join a little protein,it wiill lower down the spike of insuline.
Carbs have glicemic level, wich produces sugar in the blood that if its not used in energy,it will turn in storage fat.

Do cardio and weight lifting, and after eat or drink protein for muscle repair and more burn.

try no to eat a lot of fruit, fruit as fructose that is a sugar, its not a "bad"one but its still sugar,if you are rying to lose weight eat red fruits like strawberrys and berries like raspberries and blueberries, they are great anti oxidants too.

bananas have a high glicemic level.

    Dont starve yourself,eat!but eat lean!
if your body thinks you are starving it will retain everything and you will work for nothing..

    i hope i helped :)
this works for both of you.

feel free to add me for more tips if you want.

Apple shape with 2 babies under my belt.

What worked for me: mix of intense cardio and weight lifting. I did it 2 times, different way both times:

    1st time: 45-60min cardio 2x a week. 15min cardio and 30min moderate heavy lifting 3x a week.

2nd time: 45-60 min cardio 2x a week. 30-60 min Les Mills Body Pump 3-4 times a week.

I would say it was easier for me doing it the 1st way, but the 2nd way was effective- just took longer.

    Good Luck!
  • Hey!
Let me add a few things: im not trying to lose any more weight. I started myfitnesspal with 66 kilos and now im 58 kilos, its ok for my height, i think. I am 1,68cm. My measurements right now are 90cm bust, 70cm waist and 90cm hips.
I have stretchmarks all over! Breasts, lower tummy, legs, shoulders... From normal growth, because ive never been more than 68kg. I guess my skin is just really terrible and the lighting helped the pic.
Also, they are the same color as my skin.
I think i am an apple because i never had a flat tummy and only gain weight in upper body - and have no *kitten* and pretty much no legs.
I dont want to look bulky, but my dream is to have even a minor *kitten* and my legs to be a bit bigger!
    Also, i want firmer arms.
Thanks everyone for your great and lovely replies!!!
Even tho is my first post, i always read the foruns and found love and encoraugement here!
Last thing: i lost the weight on Lose It app, but made an account here because of the community.
Im not english native, so pardon any mistakes!

By "apple shape" are you saying that if you were to gain weight as fat it would go on your belly area before other places?

Right now your shape looks a lot closer to what some people call "athletic" where your waist is long and straight.

You are off to a great start, I hope some people in here knowledgeable about workouts help you define one that will yield the results you want.

Don't be a haterrrrr. I have had two babies and do not have stretch marks.

OP, Please do this! Go now and work hard and come back in a year and show us your amaze-balls results.

Lifting heavy weights. Compound moves. You will see great results because you already look good. Eat at maintenance or a surplus. You don't need to lose weight.
  • So, this is progress? Obv I gained a few pounds of fat - I'm gonna start a diet again now, but I would hate to lose the gains. Tips????
