Ruuners advice half marathon in a week

Hi
I'm running a half marathon on Sunday. Training was going really well until a couple of weeks ago when I got a chesty cough and cold off my son. I missed my final long run before tapering and last Monday and Tuesday went out on relative gentle jogs and my cough became much worse so I've been resting for nearly a week now.
How would you best prepare for the half? Would you rest further or go out for a very gentle jog?
I will be doing the half as I am raising money for charity and running in memory of someone. Just trying to work out the best strategy to do so. So any tips or advice is most welcome.

You've probably done all of the hard work already (or should have done) to set your baseline fitness up for that distance - so don't sweat it just a few light runs and eat properly and you'll be fine.

I would agree that you've probably done enough training to complete the event. If you feel like you can run today and again in a couple days, then 4 or 5 medium miles today, and 3 light miles Thursday would be fine. I would recommend at least one light day a few days before the event, just to loosen things up a little.0

Many thanks for your replies. I feel that I have the base training to complete the event. I've completed several 10-12 mile long runs in training and have run a half before. I'm just worried about how to get myself back on track with this cough.
I feel like I could run tonight but am worried about making my chest worse. On the other hand I've not run in a week and am itching to get out! My husband has been telling me to rest until I get rid of the cough.
I think I'll go out for a jog tonight and see how it goes. Thanks.0 -
Hi just to update. Was too ill to get any training days in and had a temp the day before so nearly pulled out. But I coughed my way around today in 2hr 23, so managed to complete it albeit slowly.0
