Guilt Free Dieting (or should I say Lifestyle)

Here are a couple of rules that I have for myself that have led to my weight loss
1. I can eat anything I want, as long as it is in moderation.
For instance, I had 2 chili cheese dogs for dinner one night. But it was the fat free turkey dogs with the Sara Lee Delightful hot dog buns. I topped it with some Hormel no beans chili and shredded cheddar cheese. The total calories for everything was 618. Moderation and a little planning is the key.
2. If I follow my nutrition plan 80% of the time, the 20% that I don't, wont matter.
What that means is, I don't beat myself up if, out of 7 days, I have one or two snacks that aren't so great for me, I don't worry about it.
Top everything off with exercise. Even a little is better than nothing.
Good luck to everyone!!

I couldn't agree more! For me, this is the key to being able to stick with it for a long time. There's no way I'd last cutting out all my favorite foods. And if I want something a little extra, I'll do an extra work-out. Moderation and balance is the key!
Way to go!0 -
And this is why you will have great success! You didn't go overboard gung-ho and get down on yourself, beat yourself up, or restrict every little thing. You are making it something you will actually stick with. Good for you!!!!!!0

This is so fantastic and completely do-able! Thanks for putting this in to words.

That's exactly I feel. I try to eat what I'm "suppose" to but I don't beat myself up if I eat a little extra or if I "give in" to a temptation food. My eating habits were sooooo bad before, a little cheating now and then is not going to hurt me.0

I feel the same way. For pretty much the first 20 years of my life (Im 22) I ate HORRIBLY. seriously it would repulse anyone to know the amount of calories and types of junk I ate on a regular basis. That is the way I grew up, the foods I know and love. If I were to go all strict and completely block those options out, I would NEVER NEVER have any success. When I eat what I want in moderation, and never deprive myself of something I truly want, I lose weight. It's brilliant, Im glad more people feel that way.0

Agree 100%!
In fact, had a burger & fries on Saturday night and a donut yesterday! :bigsmile:0 -
Good advice, NavyDoc!
I've come to the conclusion that one of the worst things we can do to ourselves is to beat ourselves up. (Okay, so it took several counseling sessions and years of failure to come to that conclusion--still, I finally got there.) All that does is to create guilt about things we can no longer change. Can I change the fact that I spent most of my adult life seriously overweight? No, but I can change what I do today.
Are any of us seriously going to be able to live our lives without ever having a slice of birthday cake or a celebratory glass of champagne? No, we aren't. But by planning ahead as much as possible, and cutting ourselves a break on the (hopefully rare) occasion where we cannot quite stick within our calorie goal, we can become healthier, fitter people than we ever were.
So I raise my glass of water to you and say "Cheers" and "Thanks."0
