Hiking!

How do you log hiking as an exercise?

The options MFP give are confusing...I'm not carrying any loads....Just me, myself, and I . It's nice out and I want to get outside. There's a park near me that has trails. I don't think they are anything crazy like climbing up and down a mountain...although it is on a mountain, but doesn't seem very steep. Should I just log this as walking?? or cross-country hiking?

Anyone else in this predicament?!

Thanks!

Just pick the good ole' "Walking the dog 3.5 mph". That's my standby for when I don't have any idea how many calories I've burned.

I just select the Hiking, climbing hills (carrying <10 lb load), I also have an HRM though so I have a more accurate reading for calories burned than what MFP would suggest

I choose the hiking cross country, since hiking burns more calories than walking (assuming you are not constantly on flat terrain). I think it's stupid that there is no hiking, hills without a pack. Or I could count my fat as a 10 lb pack... Actually a lot more like a 60 lb pack LOL

Yeah. I don't know...I actually did a little test. I used the Map my Walk App on my phone to see what it estimated for the amount of calories I burned hiking yesterday and it came out to the same as walking 3.5 miles/per hour. The Hiking with <10 lb load said I burned almost twice as much! I didn't trust it so I just went with the walking 3.5 miles (brisk pace) . The Hiking cross country was about 90 calories over what I actually burned too...so yeah.
