This is one of the best posts I have seen on here yet (been around for a couple of years but lost access to old account). I'm no expert but yeah I'd certainly say that 1200 is too low for the OP - I myself am 5ft 2 and currently weigh 213lbs, I have MFP set so that I'm eating at a 700 cal deficit with the aim of losing 1.4lbs a week - I initially had it set at 1200 but found fairly quickly that I could not maintain that (I'd be awake at like 3am feeling like rats were gnawing at my stomach) an extra 140 cals a day really doesn't sound like much but it has helped me feel more in control and feel that I can actually stick with it.

On a side note, and please trust me there is no judgement involved here at all. If I were 5ft 3 and 127lbs I would be over the freakin moon, I've not weighed that since I was 17 or so. My UGW is between 119 & 134lbs.

I really appreciate all of your input and advice. I need the education when it comes to this being that it is so new to me. When I read the nutritional facts on food labels I only look at protein, how many grams of fat, and calories. I haven't really learned what all is "okay" and balancing with this diet. So when I go to the store I feel like I'm missing out on all of the yummy food but what I need to learn is eating in moderation and how to be more knowledgeable with reading these labels LOL.

Well thank you! I would be more satisfied with a weight around 118-120.. & hopefully by then I'll be much happier with myself in a bathing suit.. I could just tend something as simple as toning up and I would be happy with my weight now but I don't have the time to go to the gym and I do work out but weights is what I would need (right?).

    What is considered "healthy" fats?

How much fiber are you eating? Protein? Healthy fats? Are you drinking your minimum 64 ounces of water? Are you losing calories to drinks?

A lot of "diet" foods I've noticed aren't well balanced to make you feel full, they just want the "low fat' or "low cal" label at all costs.

I'm on 1,200 a day, and I'm eating lots of fresh fruit and veggies and it makes a big difference. My lunch yesterday felt huge, because of all the carrot sticks and raspberries.

(Of course make sure you eat back at least a portion of exercise calories, if not all.)

You are 37 and have 50 pounds to lose. She is 22 and has 10 pounds to lose. 1200 calories is not an okay intake for her.

Just to clarify, I wasn't claiming it was an appropriate number of calories for the OP, just that I was myself eating at that number, and that the food selections one makes will affect how full one feels throughout the day. I see people who try to do the set calorie number, but their food selections basically mean they get something the size of a cheese wedge 3 times a day. They just see that "120 calories" or "Only 90 calories!" without looking to see if it would be filling.

You can still have the yummy foods. Moderation is what you want, not to be a nazi to yourself and cause yourself depression. I'm not saying a diet should be fun necessarily, but it shouldn't be painful and it doesn't have to be.

    What is considered "healthy" fats?

The fats found in nuts, seeds, fish, corn oil, olive oil, avocados, etc.

The fats you want to limit would be fatty cuts of meat, full fat dairy. (notice I said limit, not eliminate)

The one that many people list under "eliminate" would be trans fat.

I'd just like to add a thank you to you kblaine92 for not getting defensive when I and others questioned your diet choices. It is refreshing to see you listening to others opinions and considering them without taking them as personal attacks. I'll admit when I give this kind of advice I expect some push back or feeling that I have insulted someone and you have been really cool with it so thanks, I think you have a good attitude.

I do hope you read into this yourself a bit both here and online and come to your own decision about weather or not you should be eating more. I think you should of course but if I advised you to just follow blindly what random strangers on the internet told you to do then I'd be doing you a disservice.

Think of this as a heads up that several people here think you are probably undereating and take the time to look into it yourself. Several people have provided links that might help you out.

    Cheers and good luck

He knows what he is talking about for sure. Not too long ago, I was also trying to figure this out and the decent, sound, and good advice from MFPers like him helped me a ton! And I agree, it is so refreshing to see someone listen and not get all butthurt over the advice because it is very sound. Losing weight should not be that hard or restrictive. I lose very slowly but I'm totally ok with that because I still eat everything I love, just not as often and not in mass quantities. Good luck, eat more!!! :drinker:
