At goal and buying new clothes

I had to share an experience I had today shopping for clothes. Finally, after losing all the weight, I get lucky and my dad gives me moola to go shopping and I can get some stuff that fits. No problem, right....well, mostly right.

My friend and I go out to some stores and I try on stuff. I try on jeans in the size that I thought fit, she says I need a smaller size. So, the smaller size fits, but is quite snug. She tells me jeans are supposed to fit snug. Still, the idea of going down another size does not thrill me for some reason...so we move on to other clothes.

Same thing basically happens with dress pants. I try on the size I think should fit, in fact it is what I fit when I weighed even less than I do now! But they do not fit snugly like the next size down and apparently they are supposed to be snug according to the sales lady. Still, it almost feels wrong for some reason, so I buy the bigger size.

I try on shirts and cannot find a small enough size so I settle for something a bit too big (a medium LOL). The whole experience was weird for me and I wondered if other people were hesitant about trying on smaller sizes and even a bit embarrassed at the prospect of needing clothes that seem tiny compared to what you are used to. Maybe sizing has simply changed since I gained and lost all this weight, but I think this might be a bit more of my brain not having caught up with my body. It was blaffing.

Anyone else share this strange anxiety...

I know exactly what you mean. I have reached my goal, woo hoo, and so I've been needing to buy cloths. But I'm not comfortable somehow with the size of the cloths that "fit" so I have bought two pair of pants that my friends and the sales lady think were to big for me, but I just can't accept the other size yet. I assume this is all a part of the journey. It's weird though, who knew this would be a problem.

Thanks Paige, I was beginning to think I was the only one who had this problem. I guess it's all part of the adjustment to maintenance!

I think it's an adjustment of body image also. I just don't always "see" what I've accomplished so when I get conflicting information from a pair of pants to what I feel you "see", it's just strangely disturbing.
